  1. So in between the holiday get togethers I have found sometime to work out in the garage. I have made some progress on the fabrication of the patch panels. Merry Christmas everyone and enjoy the pics. Hobo Jim

Still have a lot of metal shaping to do but for a rough fit it’s coming along very nicely.

  4. Got the finish welding done on the fender and the final fit on most of the lower valance corner. I will be working on the curve to match the lower valance tomorrow.

  5. Spent today working on the Center section and the focal point of the rear valance. Hammer formed the 37 in 18 gauge metal then bead rolled the edges. I will be working on the bends and final fit soon. Hobo Jim

The 37 is pretty cool, but it won't help. Your still going to have 100 people ask you what year your car is. My 35 Dodge had "35 Dodge" plates, still had people ask me what year it was. The ones that really bugged me were the guys that wanted to argue with me and insisted that my Dodge was really a Ford. That happened so much I started caring an old 35 Dodge advertising that showed a picture of a 2 door Dodge trunkless sedan. A 2 door Dodge trunkless sedan was pretty rare. Gene

  8. I couldn’t agree more guys! I made it for my own pleasure the uneducated know it all public will never understand. I have a Slant 6 in my 56 Dodge truck and I can’t tell you how many times I hear I like that you kept the original motor in it !?! Thank you both for your comments there should be some more progress today I am excited to see how this looks together. Hobo Jim

  10. Thank you very much I made it the old school way used a plywood cut out a hammer and a cut off trailer hitch pin to form the 37. Then planshed out the imperfections polished with scotch brite. Hopefully it will be installed today lots of welding to do once the garage warms up! Happy New Year to you!

  11. OK so this is the update that I have been waiting for. The fabrication and welding are done on the rear valance! I still have to do the grinding and final trimming but I think it came out fantastic! It went from 3/4 inch of filler covering this

  16. So after catching an early flight back from Florida while the rest of my family was catching up on some sleep I snuck out to the garage to do some finish grinding. Nothing like a 60 degree day in NY in January I was able to have the big door open! That doesn’t happen to often in upstate NY while it’s no where near as nice as Florida I will take it. The panel is coming out nice and smooth I still need to finish the bottom edge but that will be another day. Hobo Jim

  19. I have been working on the fuel system and in typical Hot Rod fashion using what I had available. I soon discovered that my Ford gas tank and sending unit doesn’t like my Chevy fuel gauge that is in my Plymouth! My solution was to order a new Ford fuel gauge problem solved. My Ford tank was being filled by holding the trunk open with one hand and leaning all the way to the back of the trunk to reach the four inch fill tube. I found a set of Ford trunk supports that were given to me so I modified them to work on the Plymouth. Now the trunk stays open on to the next issue. I installed a flexible filler hose that I routed up to the top of the trunk. I then fabricated a plate to support the filler hose and gas cap. At the end of the day my fuel gauge works and I don’t have to strain my back to fill the tank success!

  21. Hey thank you David for your interest the plate is attached to the factory body supports probably used to support the top panel of the trunk interior. I just bent a angle on the backside of the plate then used sheet metal screws to attach it.

  24. Thank you very much! I am hoping to be in primer very soon I haven’t been posting a lot just doing a lot of sanding nothing picture worthy. How is your build coming? As ussaual it always Great to hear from you! Mate.

  25. GOAL!!! OK so going into this winter my goal was to have the car ready for primer by spring. Well since spring will probably never arrive this year in the north east my car is ready for primer. It has been a lot of sanding and finishing now I am looking forward to shooting the jambs and painting some of the parts that I have fabricated. I will post some pics as I get these parts painted the jambs done and the color on the car. I am so happy to have reached this Goal!

  27. So a couple of weeks ago I went to the Rhinebeck show and flea market. I found a good deal on a bench mount English wheel that I just had to have. Since all my benches are full it was time to fabricate.

So since I am waiting for my life to slow down with college graduation for my youngest son and going out of town to spend time with my older son and his wife. I haven’t had time to begin the paint on the Plymouth. I decided my English wheel needed legs. A little fabrication cutting and welding and it has legs! I will be installing some more bracing for the legs but I am happy with the balance and the height.

I am planning on shooting primer real soon I am really looking forward to that been a long time coming! It always amazes me what you see in pictures that It’s doesn’t show up when I’m in the car. I noticed I need to run the carpet higher on the firewall. Back to the garage! Hobo Jim
