  3. Lee Kay’s talents are undeniable ... but to say he is the “best metal guy in the U.S.A.” is a bit of a stretch (pun intended).

I dunno about "best in the country" as we have a few guys on here who can hold their own with anyone at the highest metal working levels. That's nice work and a rock your socks off car though.

When he wrecks it and folds it up like an accordion, Jim Sibley will fix it over a weekend.

  14. Dimebag was a great guy to the self proclaimed, "World's Greatest Titty Bar Bartender". :)

He used to make me heat up a pint glass with hot water from the Bunn coffee maker, and pour 3 shots of Crown down the inside of it, splash of Coke. That was his drink. Vinny liked Sky and tonics, with 2 limes.

He would of liked Lee Kay. More so, while Lee makes metal magic, Dime' would be cranking on those strings.

PS : that SLS is BADASS. Wow.

There is no 'best metal guy' ....but if there was a build-off ...my $$$$ would be on Craig Naff ....or Jimmy Hervatin ...or Luc DeLay....or Ron Fournier...or Wray Schelin .....

But yeah Lee Kay is a great metal worker ...

Most of the best metal guys are humble hard working guys that do it for the challenge and the love.
If they get recognized, then fine . If not they just keep on working.
Too say someone is the best would be hard to prove . I have a guy that helps me that will work for hours or days until a panel is perfectly straight. Does that make him the best? No, but he won't quit until he is satisfied.

Asking who the best metal guy is, is like asking how long is rope. there are many aspects to metal work. A great shaper may not be the best welder, a repair is a lot different than a build. Thee are guys that are great at quality but they lack speed, and others than do a good job in lightning speed.

  23. Marcel DeLay is really good.....Luc DeLay is almost as good but the best metal guy? That would be my buddy, Jimmy Vaag. A true Scandinavian craftsman. 34jimmyhoodside2_12.JPG

Wray Schelin is the best by me. Worked with him many hours. Always left his shop wondering how one guy could be so talented and that guy sure wasn't me.

It's interesting that when you talk to a very talented metal shaper they all seem to have someone that they've always looked up too.

A couple months ago I was in a guys shop in Nebraska. His son also works with him. He hand made a set of 33 Plymouth front fenders for a friend. Wow!
He goes on to say he scratched built 6 Cobra replicas. In aluminum. As well as at least 6 or more 32 Fords (3 windows and roadsters)in Aluminum in the 80`s and 90`s. Plus more than one 34 Ford roadster. Projects he was working on, 40 Ford coupe, 34 Roadster, 32 Rockne and a heavily chopped 32 3-window just to name a few. He wanted to slow down a bit to finish another cobra for him self. He`s never been on TV or produced any video`s so not many people know who he is. @Rocky I`ve been to Jimmy`s shop as well.

Reminds me of a story I read years ago.
Dick Bertolucci opened a custom body shop and employed Harry Westergard. They customized the Ohanesian Merc. Story goes that Dick used to get frustrated with Harry because he wanted to always metal-finish everything. (no filler)
