My Friend’s Dad would always give us words to live by: My favorite was “To soon old, to late Smart”. Man how I miss that guy. This site brings back a lot of Memories.

  18. Haven't seen it in awhile, but it's an old Joanie Mitchell lyric; "You don't know what you've got til it's gone..."

Around 1970 or so, there was a whole lot of real bad shit going on everywhere and it was very difficult to get away from it all and just chill out for a couple hours. I found an escape on Sunday nights at Ascot Park Gardena, CA with the Figure-8 races. My mom would dump me off at the front gate in the late afternoon and I would bring just enough money to get in and buy a bag of popcorn and a soft drink. As I was enjoying the refreshments the Figure-8's would come out for wheel packing and from the Press Box someone would always put on a record of Creedence Clearwater Revival and it would blair over the public address system. It was a very soothing experience. Nothing was happening but good music was being played and it was an ideal time to forget all the crap that was happening on earth. So, when I think of Ascot Park, I also think of CCR, the vintage stock cars, and those peaceful Sunday nights from long ago.

A couple I have always liked...
"There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action" author unknown
"There is nothing worse than a bad idea whose time has come" author E.E. Hazard
An old jump school saying was "Two things fall from the sky... Bird shit and fools" author unknown
And lastly someone on the HAMB used this gem. "Slam 3 bottles of Nyquil and you'll sleep like a wino"

Gotta be Jim Sibley's...something like "I wish I could build HotRods all day and stack them out back like firewood".

I smile every time I read that.
