Just wondering... why no one talks about the "racer math" needed to calculate the steering ratios on these rigs? If the box has this ratio, and arms on the spindle and cowl have certain lengths, how is the overall steering ratio calculated / effected? For instance, some of the cowl steering boxes are mounted higher in the body and their arms are longer, compared with installations where the arms appear about the same length? Thanx in advance... This is the Miller Golden Submarine or facsimile that had a Duplex steering gear, meaning a pitman arm and drag link on both sides and no tie rod.

Here is a picture of a Duplex built by F. Davis Engineering which was Floyd Davis, co-winner of the 1941 Indy 500. It is in my avatar.

 

Now That is Flippin' Cool. I'm gonna hafta do some research on that one.

 

I don't like it on most cars, but like most things, some cars wouldn't be right without it.

Some great examples here. Love to see some pics under the dash of mounting brackets and various boxes etc. I'm using a Gemmer on my roadster with an extended shaft as a poor mans Schroeder. Anybody have an hints on this?
