Trying to decide. My intention is to build a traditional AV8 fenderless hot rod Which do you prefer and why?
'30-'31 smooth cowl side, longer door, longer hood, better grill and lights, beadwork along the bottom and wheelwell, no tee strips against the trunk... maybe cause I have a '30 pile... I do prefer the early front fenders...
I've been a 30-31 guy for 50+ years, that 28-29 cowl and overly long quarters just don't look as nice to me. The 28-29 front fenders are the nicest looking of all the fenders Ford ever made. Bob
While I really like the '28, the one I'm building is a '31. The more I look at the '30-'31s the more I like them.
Full fendered i have always leaned toward the 30/31.Here's one i built a few years ago and it has been mistaken for a 32 more than once.I think the 28/29 have a cute tin lizzie look but not real hot roddy.Take the fenders off and put it on a 32 frame and it's the 28/29 without question.
I have always liked the '28 - '29 roadsters but find the '30 - '31's easier for me to get in and out of.
Yes. I like both equally. I am further on the 28... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I vote 50/50 in this thread. I have three 28 Model A/s, but this first one I built is a little different. 28 with 30 fenders and splash aprons and 30 windscreen stanchions.
I like the '28'-29 look myself. But the '30'-31 isn't bad looking either. My '29 started out as just a cowl, lower sections and cut out gas tank. So that's what I went with. Sent from my SM-T713 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Most people build what they find . I personally like the 28-29. But the room of the 30-31 would be nice. My son approves
I’m 6’, so 30-31 is much better for space. Still not a ton of extra room though. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I prefer the 28-29 because of the narrow cowl lines and the extra detail along the bottom of the body that is unique to the open cars. I am 6'1" and have never had space issues with the 28-29's. There's plenty of room once you do a little "rearranging." That being said, you can't go wrong with either. thanks for all the great reply's. Tough choice. I think the cowl of the 28 - 29 looks more traditional. On the 30 -31 I like the smoothness of the cowl and the wheelwell bead line. Since I like them both I've decided to go with what I can find. Why are people asking so much for the incomplete rotted POS when you can get an older restored titled complete car for approx. 5K more? Is it worth spending the extra for a complete car and building it to my liking? or buy the POS? I am capable of body, paint work and light fab work. What's the less dollars spent route?
I've always been a fan of buying the most car you can afford upfront...but have also started projects based on a field car body find.
A 28 -29 on Deuce rails has that ultimate hot rod look, I purchased a '30 body, so i will make it as hot rod as I can
