Thanks VT. Definitely a learning experience. It had helped with confidence in future projects

Getting on with wiring. I absolutely suck at this so I’m going to drag my 28 up here and use it as a template.
In the meantime I decided to paint my dash panel the same color as the body. The overlay at the top, not pictured, was painted black to provide some contrast.

  6. Really! hard to fathom that you suck at anything after watching this build! Don't forget the fusible links and one wire at a time...you should be ok.

Man, it’s really coming together. Incredibly fast build, amazing ! You sure left me in the dust !! I really like the black panels on the lower doors too. The exhaust fits the build perfectly, looks like it’s moving sitting still

Thanks fellas. There was a pic I found shortly before starting those headers. I liked the look and sorta stole it. Credit goes to the guy that built this.

I gotta be honest, if I did not go to the shop every opportunity, if even for just an hour or two, it wouldn’t be 1/3 done. If I don’t go to the shop for a day or so I find myself not really wanting to go work on it. I’d rather just lounge around after work. Basically, the hardest part is just getting there sometimes. Once there it is balls to the wall. No interruptions and no friends hanging out just to chat. Loud music and sparks

Well, said I was going to start on the wiring but I had something I needed to clean up. The 1/2”x13 threaded light stud for head lamps is very ugly. I machines a threaded adapter to use with some vintage SS wire loom. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
I think it looks much better than the exposed threads.

  16. Jackalope,
    Cool build!
How did you drill holes through the headlight mounting studs for the wiring?
How do you aim the headlights?o_O

    Thanks!

The mounting studs already had holes drilled when purchased. Adjustability is via the swivel mount at the base of the light which also allows you to “nod” them up or down. Cheap lights but they do the trick.
Hope that answers your question. If it did not just holler.

  19. numbering the wires will id them for you in the future. Most electrical suppliers have small sticky back number sheets available that are small and easy to use. Thomas and Bettes comes to mind but there are many others. Saves a lot of head scratching in the future when and if you have to trace wires back or whatever FWIW.
Just love your build. You are doing a fantastic job.

Each wire gets colored. I pull them through a V and a magic marker marks them. I bought several hundr d feet of various gage SXL wire in white. Power and Ground are bought colored wire. Everything is easily identified though.
Yeah, no making would be a nightmare.

In between wiring, a LONG time off working on her (holidays), and getting back to work, I have been him-hawing back and forth which tail lights I was going to run. I wanted something that was fitting but I suck at designing anything. At first I thought 49 Dodge or Oldsmobile taillights could look good. After some talking with friends they easily talked me out of that idea and now I am back to 59 caddy taillights. They will be mounted low between tire and body.

Not a bad look! Crazy how the curvature fits the body.
    Certainly makes it uniquely yours.
