Features 1937 to 1942 Willys Picture Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hot Rod Willys, Jan 15, 2011.

  1. Ron is a great guy and when he gets into something he's all in. Yes the Airoso car was built as a tribute car and was on a PPG calendar when it was first completed by another guy named Ron. The car is now being converted to street duty with a tamer engine combo so he came drive and enjoy it more. The engine from that car will go into his red race car for that other kind of fun.

That's right. My dad bought the car from "Big" Jim Haase who managed the (I believe) Rockville Center S&K Speed. My dad has a picture of the car with the S&K paint job on it, but no nose. I was told that the original '40 front end was wrecked at one time and before fitting the fiberglass '41 front end (in this picture) it was raced with a Ford grille in front of the radiator. I'll have to try to scan that in to put it up.

OK let me get this out of the way :p While searching for photos found this site and it is FULL of Willys photos and a couple other brands like Henry J, Austins, and Anglias. OVER 2000 photos of KILLER Willys. The problem is most are not HAMB rules friendly. Be warned the photos and cars are so GREAT you get hooked and look up and a couple hours have passed.

It is NOT my site and I have no connection to it what so ever. Have fun.

OK back to our regularly schduled posting.

Some HAMB friendly shots are from that site. But too many to separate out.

Another Willys that ran out of Jack Merkel's shop Russo and Santo (was Russo and Allen also) sbc powered, now owned by the father and son team of Jack and John Olcott with bbc and turbo 400. Car was for sale this summer I think, they ran with the East Coast Gasser group.

    Yes, that's it.
BTW, the Olcotts sold the car last week and it now resides in the Detroit area.

Wow talk about early Willys, in 1961 (about) a couple of guys I didn't know at the time went out to southern CA. to live, they were buying up all the willys they could find, fast forward a few years after sending a 36 Willys pu back to NY one guy Ray Kobel moved back to NY and brought his 40 Willys coupe back with him and built this C/G car I uploaded, he drove this car to work everyday in LA. Fast forward to 1972 I buy a steel Willys coupe and build a street rod out of it. My long winded point is that people didn't even know what a Willys was at that time. Many asked me if mine Ray racing 55 chevy.jpg My Willys at Timonium 74.jpg was a jeep and some thought a VW. Second picture mine, they are not the same car.

    Al Tschida
built the car above many years ago(the late 60's)...brought back to life by a local car guy Johnny Z.
The other green one on the right was Al's last build just a few years ago...with lots of work done
by fellow rodder, and great builder, Greg Gruber. Two neat cars!

  24. IMG_20170408_181224097 (2).jpg This truck has a 409 in it, and the owner takes it everywhere. It was thought to have been a factory truck used to move stuff around in Toledo...extremely low miles on the odometer...neat ride. Laska's Coupe.jpg This is one of the coupes I found in the early 80's (didn't look anything like this) I found it in Forrest Lake, MN., and it had a 390 Ford in it. Sold to a good friend who enjoyed it for many years. This coupe has been driven coast to coast...extremely dependable...(no longer in MN.) g-willys p.s. My friend had a big block chev. in it.

  26. The coupe (4 cars above) with Antelope Speed Shop on it...is the same coupe as shown in post #5619 with Wild Willy on the door. Started in Minnesota, spent several years in California, and then returned to Minnesota sometime in the mid to late '70's...now restored to how it was back then (with a different sponsor) mostly built by Al Tschida, it was owned by his brother-in-law (see post # 4829) g-willys
