Can't tell you about the car but the photo is from the 1966 US Nationals and is from the top end--tires are tall, diagonal lines across the track and the oval track spectator mound in the background.

I can't find anything on the car but seeing as it is a Chuck Conway photo and looking at the background it was most likely taken at Oklahoma City's Willow Run Raceway.

In view of NHRA's recent requirement to have header collectors tethered to the pipes those header wires were ahead of their time in retrospect.

The most that I can tell you is that it is a Wayne Miller photo from 1953.

This is the Harrell Engines car with a hemi under the hood. The A started life as the Tony Berardini's flathead powered #7 (a sister car to the now restored #404 Berardini car) but after Bob Morgan totaled Harrell's 34 coupe around 1954 Jim (White) Harrell and brother Nick purchased the roadster and put their flathead in the car. In late 1955 they teamed up with Willie Borsch to run hemi power. This is the second roll bar configuration for the car with the first being the original Berardini version as run when the car still had the original paint. Later a brace was added to this single hoop so this photo most likely dates to around 1958/9 as the brace was in place in 1960 and the engine was running a 4-71 blower with a scoop off the cowl area prior to the team debuting the altered that later became the Winged Express.

This one started life as Art Tremaine's dry lakes/street car as seen below.
Art sold it to T W Buck and Roger Bohls out of Austin, TX and from then on it saw drag strip duty as the "Texas Rocket" with an Olds engine under the hood. The first photo must be from early in the car's Texas life as by the 1957 Nationals in Oklahoma City the car was lettered and had a tonneau cover. At that race driver Bohls ran a best of 13.40 at 108.17 mph At the Okie City event in 1958 the team ran 13.36 at 109.42 for quick time in the B/R class but came in second in eliminations.

Nope, not Keith Black. He simply built the injected 394" Olds engine in this car which was owned by Dick Burley and Jim Walker, the owners of the B & W transmission shop which was also in South Gate.
