Features Who's Building a T?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Slimegreeeeeen, Nov 19, 2011.

  1. I care.

So what's the plan for lowering the top irons? I'm re-doing the top on the Tourer so enquiring minds need to know...

Glad you liked it! No build thread because there hasn't been enough action to justify it yet. If I could get my Falcon sold the injection of cash would really get things moving, but until then I'm just nibbling around the edges.

That's a crossing-that-bridge-when-I-get-there project at the moment, as the level of three-dimensional thinking will require having everything on hand, I think. Originally, I was just going to run tonneau covers, but my wife was insistent we have a top. I must admit that I like the jaunty look of a folded top anyway, and side curtains will extend the driving season nicely.

Here's mine. Finished this spring and drove it about 3000 miles. A few engineering flaws to work out this winter. A build thread to follow, coming soon, I hope. IMG_3624.JPG

I picked up this '25 coupe body a couple of months ago. I wasn't looking for a project, but I couldn't pass up a rust free body for the price. It's been in a barn loft for the last 50 years. Still has working window regulators and everything.

Haha, yea, it looks kind of weird. That's a cart that it was on when I picked it up. He wouldn't give up the cart.

The insane roof proportions on those pre '26 T coupes are the best, the roof almost looks like it gets bigger at the top. I'm much more of a roadster guy than a coupe guy but I must admit I really like those, and that one looks like a real honey!

I actually prefer them over the much more common 26-27 coupes...I like the goofy proportions. The only bad thing about them is all the wood. I'm replacing all the lower wood , front posts, and top wood with steel. The rest is in great shape so I'll leave it.

Here's the frame we made for it. It may not look like it, but we started with two pair of '33-'34 Ford boxing plates, shortened, sectioned, and kicked up the rear. Then the top and bottom pieces were cut to fit the body. I don't like the looks of a front axle stretched out in front of the radiator, so a lot of work went into keeping the axle under the radiator, and keeping a short wheelbase (101").

Not quite building yet, but slowly collecting parts. I have a 26 T coupe body, and about 3/4th's of another. The second one has been cut in half, I have the rear section minus the decklid, and the cowl cut from the same body. Missing the windshield frame and doors when I got it, and I have since found a really nice passenger door.
I plan to combine the best of both cars to build a nice one, and hang the rest back together for a future project, or to use as trading stock.

  26. Mine back together and 1/2 an hour into the test drive, no ''real'' issues and just a few details to sort and finish like shifter boot and finish wiring the charging system. JW

  28. Cheers, my goal was to have it running and driving by the end of 2017. Fired her up Saturday, drove her around the farm Sunday and took her to a Hot Rod breakfast Monday, still need to get it certified for NZ...soon. JW
