Alright boys and girls. Does anyone know where I can find stainless steel exhaust and intake valves for a Chrysler A Poly 318 engine? I'm looking to have harden seats put in and the machine shop is recommending stainless valves. Will LA valves fit? Thanks!
from rock auto, exhaust valve dimensions, 1966 318 (poly) 4 groove; 1.5630" Head Dia.; 0.3715" Stem Dia.; 4.5390" O.A.L. from rock auto, exhaust valve dimensions, 1967 318 (LA) 4 groove; Chrome plated stem; 1.5000" Head Dia.; 0.3865" Stem Dia.; 5.0020" O.A.L
That's too easy! I guess I can call them and see if they are stainless steel and can handle hardened seats.
You can use normal exhaust valves with hardened seats, can't you? Are you working the engine hard enough/long enough to need hardened seats?
I'm running standard valves with hardened seats in my 318 Poly. Have done 29k miles so far with no problems. I must admit I don't punish it as about 70 is the speed limit here and the govt makes sure you don't exceed it with lots of cameras and highway patrol cops.
The LA engine valves do not cross over to the poly ones - there is an overal lenght diference that stops that idea. Plus stainless steel valves are not really needed - the std type valves were very well made and once lapped in properly will last many miles. Ma Mopar produced good parts
