That was taken in the Philippine Islands In Manila. He did build those and my cousin Edna is written on the side of one. I think they were road racers of some sort. I'm thinking that pic was taken mid to late 50's or early 60's. My Uncle did migrate to the LA area sometime in the early 60's and did some SoCal drag racing

I thought I had another one but I was wrong. I haven't seen any others but I love that little hotrod. I wish I could clear the photo up. It's a weird little setup at the steering gear.

I did leave a link to Desoto's journey with this Hotrod. The pics I posted pics were relative to Hamb period up to it's end and it does appear changes were made to both front and rear suspension in post Hamb era changes reflected in the photos posted at the link. It did survive despite and accident near its 65/6 configuration cause unknown to me but documented in photos at link...involving front end damage.

I thought the pics illustrated that many fellas worked with what they had, which in Desotos case was a yard, ambition, no doubt a few Hotrod mags, some cool parts, minimal tools and a yearn to learn.

Yeah true that Stogy. Just take 5 mins to check out that link and it is indeed a journey of a hot rod. I guess that's how they did it back in the day. Looks like he did some huge miles on that suspension though,,

Many built stuff that way I am sure..It would be cool if he would chime in and talk a bit about how things worked and why he changed the suspension as he did...I wish more Hambers would share the adventures of the good ole days with pics...I stumbled upon Desoto's stuff when reading his Merry Christmas post.

That in my experience was far more common (traditional) than what was in the magazines. Most of us just didn't have the tools or access to them. He built it, drove it, wrecked it, fixed it, and kept it. Not my style but that is none of my business. I wonder if the lack of scrub line and the suspension played into the crashes? The rear suspension is very interesting. I wonder where the idea came from.

The actor in the photo is the guy who played Dobie Gillis. That is a very famous Bonneville car that George Barris customized. it got used on an episode of Dobie Gillis. This is the front view of The Chrisman Brothers Coupe 6647314129_31ed99a1a9_z.jpg

Old TV show from the late fifties. These shows had scenes some with period Hotrods...I was to young to see them but they are on youtube now. Bob Denver "Gilligan" was in that Dobie show...There is another that had several cool Hotrods...some in this thread...
