  3. I mentioned to a guy that I would try to sketch a '51 Ford for the show. Computer crapped out on me so I spent most of the day trying to figure it out... no dice... so, here is what is on my phone for now... IMG_4599.JPG IMG_4134.JPG IMG_4517.JPG IMG_4598.JPG

  8. A while back another HAMB(LiveActionMotorsports) member asked me if I could do a rendering of a project that he was thinking of doing that involved building a couple of work trucks for his business based on a Model 31 A pickup with a service style bed installed. I liked the look so much it prompted me to depict how it might look in and actual work setting being use as a emergency service vehicle . Got a flat tire or a dead battery on your hot rod or custom...No fear! 24 hour hot rod road service is here.

    Nice show!
I´m trying to learn how to draw to get some of my mental images out of my head... So a couple of training-doodles from me...
The Merc is a three wheeled bubbletop, kind of a Messerschmitt. Still need to work on the proportions... IMG_5426.jpg IMG_5350.JPG

    Hello,

Growing up reading the old Hot Rod plus Rod & Custom Magazines, scallops started my interest in flames. Scallops were what seemed like the beginning of flames. My trials on painting scallops on bikes and go carts ended in exasperation as the curved piping frames did not go well with the design. On paper, it looked fine, but on real stuff, a technique needed to be learned. The drawings seemed to get smaller and smaller…so I just looked at the 50’s hot rods with scallops in the car mags.

The side panels of model cars and flat surfaces were easier to draw than the curved panels. Kudos to the artists and car painters that get that great look every time. Here is the “Christmas Parade” themed hot rod(s).

IMG_1125.JPG Just found this in a tube while looking for other things. Libbys Diner was/is located near Burlington, Vermont and gives out place mats for you to doodle on. This was mine back in '95 when we stopped after looking at a college for my oldest daughter. Felt guilty just commenting, so I will share this. Til next week, Carp

For my first participation to the Friday Art Show, here is a 2013 watercolour, 'Dirt Track Nostalgia', my first work on a rods & customs theme.
