  1. Looks like early Hupmobile- maybe 1910-ish?

Aloha Zoran. Sorry to report I haven’t done much of anything on the Airhead Roadster. I felt guilty about that, so today I pushed it out of the garage so I could sweep under it and took the opportunity to remove the lowering blocks and long U-bolts I had installed and returned the car to its original ride height since I’ve decided to go more traditional with the stance rather than sporty. I also remounted the front beam to spring-over to bring it back up as well.

I’ll be ordering a set of dies for my roll bender soon to allow bending of smaller diameter tubing as I plan to make the body support structure of it. I have a pretty good idea of the direction I want to go in now and will start shaping cardboard soon in preparation of building a wooden buck. Then I’ll use the cardboard as a guide for roll bending the supports.

I took a few photos while it was out of the garage getting a sun tan today. It still rolls!

Working on some exhaust tips in 316 stainless. Very hard to form but welds and polishes beautifully.

    Maybe ultralight airplane?

No need for an ultralight when your boat doubles as a hovercraft! Kidding of course, but I do joke with people about that when they look at it with the motors in the vertical trailering/launching position. That boat (whiched I’ve named SolGato) is one of the reasons I haven’t gotten much done on the AR project. It’s the second one I’ve built. It’s solar electric powered using two 55lbs thrust motors controlled by wired remotes. My last boat only had one motor, but on this one I decided to try something different by eliminating the tiller and using the independent forward and reverse thrust of each motor to propel and steer the boat. It works awesome and is kinda like driving a tank on water or more so operating a space shuttle in space, and the remotes allow for operating the boat from any position as you can see from photo. Anyway I just added the camper shell to it the other day as I always thought a removable shell would be a great addition/neat adaptation to a small catamaran.

    Alright, enough about boats.

So I got the steering box remounted on the Airhead Roadster. It’s been a challenge trying to find the best spot for it. Originally it sat on top of the frame but with the boxer motor the right cylinder wants to live in the same space. So I decided to mount it further back and in inside the frame so that the box sits lower. The shaft now comes through a hole in the frame channel and accepts the pitman arm. Looks like all I will need to do is extend the straight portion of drag link to maintain proper geometry and travel without interference from wheel when turned full lock. Will also need to fabricate a heat shield and run extra HD oil as the box sits very close to the cylinder, but think it should be okay.

And so one more major piece of the puzzle has fallen into place!

Rolf, thank you on wonderful photos!
Great cars, great adventure in nice countryside. Brave men in fast open automobiles at quite low temepratures.
At 3rd photo is your old Salmson?
What are two smaller cute autos at last photo?

    Ciao,
    Zoran
