The reason you don’t score both sides first is because once you score the glass you only have a few minutes to run the score. If you wait to long the run won’t follow the score line and run off in another direction.

Interesting, thanks. Good to know that even after scoring the first side it's no time to take a break (pun intended).

If you have a stained glass store in your area they will carry the oil filled cutter and also the pliers.

Chris, Thanks so much for posting that thread. It takes the
mystery out of it. Hope you post more that include the sanding and shaping.
What do you use to seal the edge of the glass?

Could a propane torch be used instead of the alcohol
Great video. Gonna try on a square body windshield for practice.
    Thanks Andrew

Propane torch won't work as it heats unevenly and is too hot.

Great post and demo. Concise, well spoken, too the point. After watching DIY videos on YouTube and enduring um, uh, and 90% useless information, this video was very good. Thanks for posting!!

Thanks for posting this excellent video. Audio was very weak until I plugged in my headphones to my laptop. Came in loud and clear after that.

I'm wondering what the success rate is and how much you charge to cut a curved ws.

Who pays if you break it? Just wondering how that part of it works.

It's the customers gamble. I don't guarantee I can cut them, but I'll sure try my best! I usually have the customer buy the windshield and just have it sent to me. Then i cut it & put it back in the box and send it to you!

Very nice video, thanks. I find it interesting that the glass is scored moving away from you. Many of the glass cutters I have seen use a "pull" rather than a "push" stroke. I'd suggest to the uninitiated to use a specific glass cutting oil, although I have used a mix of kerosene and 3:1 oil. Pliers are available from stained glass suppliers- Warner Glass in Allentown,PA, Whittemore-Durguin in MA, and Delphi in Ohio are a couple of places. Pliers can be purchased with parallel steel jaws (grozing pliers) or slightly curved jaws with plastic coverings (running pliers). I like the latter for stained glass work.
Chris, how are you finishing/sealing the edges after sanding?
