Jeff-it's been a while since you posted this on the HAMB. I recently purchased a 54 Merc, 256/auto. The engine had been rebuilt but the trans is very tired. Could you suggest a modern tranny upgrade? A 5.0/AOD swap is not out of the question either. There have got to be dos and don'ts ref to years to look for. Regards--Marty
