Halibrand No-Change Rears

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Jan 21, 2005.

  1. I read in a book that Halibrand made aluminum quick change center sections that hooked up to stock 'A rears and gears (a dummy quick change). Does anyone know where I can find one and do any other alterations need to be made or will it just bolt right in? Thanks.

Why would you want to do that?

  4. As I recall, they were simply aluminum versions of the stock Ford banjo.

seb fontana and Tim like this.

  5. It was just a thought-something to use for a while until I can buy a real one.
    -Thanks, Dean

The Halibrand no change rear, was a cast alum. center section with a shortened "dummy" quick change extension & cover. It was made shorter so it would clear 32 gas tanks!
    LOTS OF LUCK FINDING ONE!!!

AV8's book talks about them but states that they are no longer made. I'm going to check the source mentioned, I think one would be super on a raditional ride when you didn't have the money for a real QC.

Halibrand made the no change aluminum rears "back in the day", not to be confused with the fake quickies they made 10 years ago. The old no change rears are kind of pricey today, so if your not a lucky guy it might just be best to save the bucks for a real quickchange.

I've got a Halibrand? magnesium centersection that has no provision for change gears at all. It's just a magnesium banjo.

Does anyone have any info on these?

The rear in question was a drag racing center section made by Halibrand, it was made out of magnesium and had a few lines protruding off the housing, possibily for strength. I sold a NOS one on ebay for $1200, I was very suprised at the money it brought but it was definitley a neat piece, I have only seen a couple others in my travels.

Thanks Sixcarb, That sounds exactly like it. I bought it as a complete '40 rearend. Chrome everything (bones, bells, backing plates) Merc brakes, and mag centersection.

It's going to look bitchin under my A sedan. [IMG]

    Thanks,

For all you Quick Change "experts" here is a pic of the dummy Q/C in my T Speedster project. Paid $100. for it at a swap meet years ago but beats $2500. for the real deal. Mantuajohn

Thanks for adding the photo, it might help mantuajohn see what the “experts” are referring to and in this case it has nothing to do with a quick change center section, whether it is false or not.

This is my Magnesium no change rear end center. It came with 5.28 gears and says Benson 21 on it. Gary PC020005.JPG PC020004.JPG PC020007.JPG
