IMG_4280.JPG According to my buddy Jake, there are two things that make, or break, a car. Wheels and stance. This afternoon I lowered the '34 down off the stands, so for the first time since it's painted, and with two of the three sets of wheels and tires on it, I can see what it's going to look like.

    And it is good. 23915926_10215552222861315_2855824909208211346_n.jpg 24130040_10215552213941092_6352111787536151187_n.jpg 24131482_10215552202420804_1086177782074156802_n.jpg

I and most everyone agree with you. So which wheels are you going to run. I prefer my wires for now, they are one off, from a time when it was on the show circuit and the car was full fendered. Those rear rims a deep reversed, both front and rear made by truespoke back in the 70's. I do believe I need some more rake in it though which might be somewhat of a problem. Has Jag rear though and I can play with the shocks in the rear I suppose, some at least.

  5. I AGREE...but I'd still rather have a great set of straight-spoke American torque thrusts... 34rear12_21_15.jpg

  6. I’m liking the wires Brian.

The shocks up front are Houdailles. I think you're looking at the Heim joint and all thread rod (guess how much 5/8" fine thread, grade 8, LH all thread rod is...) links. I'll probably paint the Heim joints black, they kinda stick out...

Thanks. I plan on running the wires and radials most of the time. The chrome slots are 14's, the tires are ANCIENT NOS bias belts. Those won't get driven other to an occasional cruise night or local show. The third set, which I have to paint the wheels for, are 15" '49 Chevys, 8.00x15 WW's for the rear and 7.20's for the front, if I want the car to have a more 50's vibe. I've got the '49 Chevy hubcaps with the Bowtie, which is fine since the car has a 283 and '36 Chevy headlights.

Brian has it right. Wheels and stance make all the difference. My stock bodied 64 Biscayne has both and looks great. IMG_0812.JPG

I originally built it with 49 wheels and caps so that is the style I'm going back to. NOW with the proper wheels and caps, finally.(ATTACH=full]3732826[/ATTACH] 20171130_141044.jpg

  15. I agree, but personally I prefer a simple steel wheel and a exaggerated stance. HRP

  16. Danny, I love the way your truck sits, mine could use a bit more elevation adjustment but because of a bad decision, that would require drop spindles. Maybe in the future. Mitch.

I agree 100 percent, How many cars look stupid just because of the wheel choice.

It is an art to get a car to sit right with the just the right rolling stock. Many have tried and fewer have succeeded.

IMHO, It takes more than wheels and stance to make a car look right. Take my 34 for example. You may like the stance and wheel choice and think the car is a piece of shit because I chopped it to much.
It comes down to a lot of things put together that make a nice look.

  26. IMG_20171028_121412096.jpg I don't think I've got mine quite right yet. Tires look too small but that might be the whitewall width.

    Not me!
One of the cars that I've always considered my North Star as to what a hot rod should look like.
