The when to stop button is a always a personal decision. At speed, drag, lift and cooling may be reduced by adding but it also some things may be increased by adding so finding the happy medium is the balancing act.

So Dean were louvers in your racing career ever a cause for concern as in reducing/impeding timing?

Definitely well executed in the build department...I like this angle better myself.

  6. The Frank Kurtis punched louvers in the aprons of my first RPU were not for speed, but functionality. The mufflers were just inside the aprons, and the louvers helped reduce heat, and helped to keep from burning the paint.

    Nice pic Dean...
Saw your ole Hotrod tearing up the beach at Pendine the other day and it seems to have a close cousin...
Steve seems to be having a lot of fun with it.
    What a cool Hotrod...He is

  9. Yeah, Steve is having a lot of fun using the car as it was meant to be used. If someone else has to own it, I'm glad it's Steve.

Yup beyond extreme...balance is an art...or sometimes statements are made. I guess its a rolling advertisment for a metalsmith or if I remember there was a wild artwork that predated it...

I would if I was in the business of doing louvers advise the customer that a more balanced theme would be more complimentary to the subject at hand.

However I am glad even when things go a little over there is generally a tipping point.

You know the old saying...just when ya think you've seen everything...;)

It would probably be better if he would have louvered the frame rails. The holes kinda ruin the theme.

Yeh, I don't recall the whole story but if this was a calling card for his business; I wonder if anybody called.
Louvered roofs and trunk lids are OK in my eyes (like that matters) but I can't warm up to louvered doors, cowls and quarters.
Now about that frame, how can you improve on the looks of deuce frame rails.

The louvers on the hood of my Merc where there when I bought it 1997. I was actualy thinking of finding a different hood at the time because I was going to put one of my flame jobs on it. Long story short I had it displayed in my booth at Rod and Customs Americruise when it Was in Madison . Low and behold Gary Heidts of Heidts hot rod fame came up and introduce himself and told me he had been checking out the louvers on my hood. Turns out that before he started the suspension shop, he used to do louvers and him and a buddy would haul the press around to different shows and punch louvers at the shows. He had custom made his dies himself and they had a distinct shape. He was almost certain he had louvered my hood. Gary turned out to be a really cool guy and since it makes a great story on the car , the hood will always stay on the car. Larry

I still say they had room for more...:D

Three pros for that Hotrod are the Artwork was very well done and the execution of the design was carried out very complimentary to the design with a high level of mechanical expertise.

A classic example of " just because you can doesn't mean you should".

I hope he didn't waste a real Henry body to do this.
