Hot Rods Spring Perch

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Logan LeMaster, Nov 23, 2017.

  1. So I got my axle stripped down today! It really was not as bad as I thought it might be. One spring perch came out fairly easy the other one was a bit tougher. I put the axle in a press and put a little pressure on the perch then fired up the torch. Really didn't have to apply much heat at all before the perch made a little pop and decided to move out. I repeated this process for the two king pins. My plan is to send the axle to Joe's to be dropped and to have a set of 39-40 spindles installed. My question is what spring perch to most people put back in. I really don't need the originals with the eyelet for the mechanical break stuff. IMG_2797[1].JPG

I would use Henry's and just grind off the brake part.

If the originals are not worn or bent, use them. Cut off the brake mount if you don't want it. You won't find any better quality parts than the originals.

  5. If you do use the original A perch bolts; be sure to take note they are 11/16" ID when buying shackles.

  6. Is there supposed to be a bushing in the eyelet the shackle is in?

Like others said, use the original ones.
