Chrisman's white '64 Comet has to be a recreation because the white '64 Comet became the red '65 Comet.

Good point, and something I completely overlooked. But if the Chrisman family couldn’t build a duplicate nobody could.

E9C932D3-5927-4D23-8859-F9068F1F58B8.jpeg Scott Slot. Scott used an impeller pump, been a long time but IIRC the pump was about 5-6” diameter, the impeller was like on a sump pump or washing machine. High volume, not a lot of pressure compared to a Hilborn or Enderle vane pump.

    Hey MM,

Thank you for the nice comments about the story and photos. At Lions, the original the Cad powered Bantam Coupe was very successful. With many Comp Coupe class wins, the Hampton/Dye coupe ran against the FED racers for Top Eliminator. With great success using the Cad powered Bantam Coupe and then in 1959-60 jumping up to the big Hemi powered Bantam, the search was on to be more competitive..

So, in the mid 1960’s, along with Eldon Dye, Don Hampton built one of the most unique vehicles in drag racing history, the twin-engine Dye and Hampton “Too Bad” Fiat Competition Coupe.

THANKS TO: DAVE...296ARDUN FOR THE PHOTO AT LIONS

The twin motor set up looked familiar, it was similar to the Howard Cam Special twin Chevy motor that Jack Chrisman drove at Lions and other So Cal strips. Also, the one that won the Nationals.

    Hello,
Sorry, I forgot to include the film I took of the Eldon Dye/Don Hampton Comp Coupe from 1958 to 1960 at Lions(58-59), Riverside Raceway(1959) and the Bakersfield Smokers Meet (1960). They were usually at Lions with the Cad powered Bantam. Then, when we went to Riverside Raceway near the end of 1959, that Cad/Bantam was transformed into a fire breathing 671 Hemi powered Bantam coupe with new colors.

The Bantam Competition Coupe started as Cadillac powered and challenged some of the top FEDs for Top Eliminator. Then was rebuilt into a 671/Hemi powered Bantam Coupe for later 59 and 1960. The color contrast and MORE power was amazing.

I think this got lost in the great crash of '17. So I'm putting it back. I hope the follow up picture of the roadster gets put back to. 23376132_1575890885807168_1511807150123155935_n.jpg

I had a friend in the early 70's that raced an original 66 Belvedere I (post), factory 2x4 street Hemi car. Raced in SS/D, was factory 4 speed and Dana 60 rear.
Helped him swap the factory intake manifold for the Edelbrock "Rat Roaster" intake.

That hemi is in a ‘29 Roadster that Willy Borsch ran with Jim and Nick Harrell. Eventually they realized the car was too heavy to keep up with the competition so a new muffler-moly chassis with a Cal-Automotive ‘glass ‘23 T was built.
When the Harrell’s quit Al “Mousie” Marcellus came on board as partner in one of the most famous F/A’s ever.

DSC02287.JPG DSC02292.JPG DSC02287.JPG DSC02288.JPG DSC02292.JPG This is the 276 cu. in. flathead I built for my sons roadster. It has forged pistons, a mild cam, dual 94s, a chevy distributor, and dual turbochargers. Not completely traditional but it sure runs good.

The give away is on the body, it’s an Ornermotive injector. IIRC Orner used an OEM Chevy FI base plate with his own throttle body and stacks connecting them. He also made one for GMC blowers too, but neither enjoyed any popularity.

  29. ^^^ I have seen this pic several times over the years, looks like a wild ride and not for the faint of heart. The pulley on the blower looks very large, under driven.

I don't know Mikey, are those pulleys flanged on one side? Flange in front on the top pulley, and to the back on the lower; I think the flange might make the top look bigger than it is. Weren't early Weiand pulleys flanged like that?
