I wonder if this is the same Bob Oliver who would later become the President of The American Bugatti Club? Jay Leno owns his Type 37 now, and the Type 57SC is the centerpiece of the Mullin Collection.

Holy crap! Does it have the ability to predict the weather? That is some serious amount of gauges! Don't get me wrong, I totally dig it!

I think there is a picture of this one, in front of a McDonalds, in the current issue of TRJ.

IMG_1217.JPG IMG_2955.JPG IMG_2959.JPG IMG_3237.JPG IMG_3250.JPG My '34 was built in the late 70's or early 80's, so it's not exactly the era. Since the blown flathead was long gone, and the project came with a '58 or '59 T'bird column and steering wheel, I went for an early 60's look. A 283 was found, I had an Offy 2x4 intake and carbs, found some Cal-Custom finned valve covers, and had the rim lace Dayton wires, which to me look like Jag wheels. We all have our own personal nostalgia, this fits what I would have liked a '34 Ford to look like when I was a kid in the 60's.

I have not seen them myself. As being a Pat Ganahl book it has to be great. Lost Hot Rods 1, and Lost Hot Rods 2.

I think this was a different car than Doane Spencer's former roadster. It takes styling ques from it though.

Not sure, but didn't the Dave Gale "tribute" have plain sides on the frame (no exhaust)? That pic might actually be the Spencer car before it's restoration.

  13. Yes, I believe that is one of the looks it had when Neal East owned it.

I’d like to hear more about the mid-late 60’s style, specifically, mag wheels. When and what were you guys running? I suspect Torq Thrust. What else?

No, but it still says "Balls" on the back corner. That's staying.

The timing seems about right, and he was from the L.A. area . . . I found this stuff by Googling -- the 57SC has a well known history:

Thanks Joeyesmen, The Type 57SC was on the cover of Ken Purdy's Kings of the Road, a must read for any car guy. Bob

American mags, chrome steel wheels, and factory 50's wire wheels. Any others? I love the Buick Skylark wire wheels. What were you guys running?

This Vette hasn't changed since the early 1970's -- running 5 slot ETs.

  24. Barry Lobeck's first red roadster:
Huge dirt track tires on the back, short skinny VW front tires, big rake, stockish body except for the solid hood sides, finned Buick drums, musclecar drivetrain. Not a lot different from Keesler's yellow highboy.
This car paved the way for the "Ohio look".

One of Randy Bianchi's(sp?) '70's builds. It was at the Rodders Journal show at Pimlico a couple years ago and still looks the same.

Nice cars Just Gary. Thanks for posting them. Interesting observation about how similar really are Gary Kessler and Barry Lobek roadsters.

One of my favs from this era, Phil Kendrick 19030631_10155446534177990_5000888444621264243_n.jpg DaveArcher.jpg s Sedan

  29. To later become the Super Prune. It still exits, but as far as I know it's in pieces. It was voted one of the top 75 32 Fords. Phil Kendrick passed away a few years ago. He always had a nice 32 Ford Hotrod around. The car went to England with Jeff Beck for awhile, but came back to the USA then Jeff sold it.

    Hello,
Back in the late 60s-early 70s, this Ford Model A Delivery was probably driving around to the LARS event, before the big event was moved to Pomona. It was a popular Model A Delivery and had all of the speed stuff to make it go, as well as the look of a show car.
    upload_2018-6-19_4-2-12.png
This version of the old delivery trucks had a little more room in the back instead of the smaller sedan delivery models. A working truck transformed into a cruising/show truck for the family. It had a 327 SBC Fuel Injection heads, and a Turbo 400 transmission. The ease of handling/driving was accentuated by the addition of the rack and pinion steering with the inclusion of the Corvette Independent Rear Suspension set up.

For the show portion, chromed S&S wheels and the outstanding Tangerine Orange color make it stand out from a long distance. A surf wagon by chance? Well, if it was, at least you could definitely see the color in the parking lots or parked along Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, while driving to check out the surf. The era current, long/short surfboards would fit inside this delivery.

It is my kind of custom sedan delivery for all kinds of uses.. Especially when that cool chrome horn was beeped with that distinct sound.
