Wow, take me back to that time! What a great editorial Joey. Let's look deeper though, although I'm sure you already did. The houses, clearly aluminum siding vs the "trailer park" plastic shit on today's homes. Check out that Chevy, a fuggin bubble top Bel Air! I see the V-8 emblem on the fender but hard to see anything more. Did you see the exhust cutouts behind the front tire? These guys had their priorities in order, huh? I'll stop there so you and others can share more observations. The dragster is pure 1/4 mile porn. The stretch dosn't look new, it looks to me as if that was done late in it's comp days. Would be kool to learn if it's still a shorty or was it kept long. Thanks, nice entry man.

 

I'm thinking the blue '62 is a 409.. look at the emblem on the fender.

 

It's interesting that in the color pictures of it racing that they switched from steel wheels to the Torque thrusts. It's clearly the same day as there's a red Mustang parked in exactly the same place. A different compound of slicks perhaps?

When they restored it they should have shorten the frame back to the original wheel base! I had a friend back in the 60s that had a C/Fuel dragster that looked similar to this car, it had a 283 bored to a 301. That thing would scream to 9000 rpm +......... what a beautiful sound !!!!!!!!!!!

 

Seem to remember one of the later " Helzapoppin" cars had a high roll cage like that, wonder if that's it?

 

Wonder what strip they usually ran at? The tires mounted on the steelies look quite a bit shorter, just testing maybe? Nice little rail and a runner, too!

 

Nice looking car. I like the shorter version also. I just like the short WB diggers. I was looking through the race ads on a couple of online sites, and my old FED from the late 70's/early 80's is once again up for sale, only $15.5K; I had less than $2K in the car complete and running (lots of parts collecting/horse trading/doing the work myself). My trailer only cost $250.00. What bothers me, is they give a history and description of it that's just not true They say it's a Scotty Fenn car, when it was a Kent Fuller kit; chrome moly tubing when it's mild steel, and now it's BB Ford powered; it was a SBC powered car when I had it, and a full second quicker then also. Oh well; can't go back, but I'd really like to have a similar car again. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

in 2014 the vermonster was on display at the stowe old car show in stowe vermont..

I was at the event with my family and these photos were taken by my then 9 year old..
neat car.. cool history..
