Here's how my girl is currently sitting. Going to tub it this weekend so the rear tires fit.

  3. To fit the 15x10 rims with 275/65x15 tyres I added 2" of metal in each rear fender, oxy welded & hammer finished front to back with a thin wipe of bog, has held together since 1974........andyd.

Very nice. I moved the axle back 2" and am using 15x10s wrapped with 285/75R15. I've thought about extending the fenders. If I ever go up to 305s or larger, I'll probably do that. For now, tubbing will work since I have to build a new floor anyway.

  5. Yeh, I thought about changing the axle centreline when I did it as it moved the leading edge of the wheelarch as you can see in this old pic but I can live with it, well have lived with it since 1971......lol.......the big change was about 8-10 yrs ago when the early 70's vinyl top came off as seen in my avatar..........lol.....I'm a slow learner.......just noticed that your car has the running board chrome caps.....40yrs ago I helped a mate pull apart a basket case Oz assembled 1940 Chrysler, it was the only straight eight 1940 mopar I've seen and he wanted the engine for his 1938 Imperial limo, all I wanted was those cappings, they are brass and chromed up very nicely and are the only set I've seen in Oz..........is yours a business coupe?..........andyd

Not sure of it was originally a business coupe or club coupe.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think '40 was the last year of the shared body style. And the difference being a lack of rear seat. I think '41 dropped the quarter windows on the business coupe.
When I got it, it had '93 Riviera front and rear seats. I was told that it had been a show cruiser for some years, but had issues when I got it.
I haven't tried to get the info translated yet.

  9. Yeh 1940 was the last year for Chrysler/Desoto & Dodge to all use the 5w body shell with the short rear side windows, come 1941 they all used the new 3 window body for the business coupe and a new longer roof for the 5/6 passenger body shell....Plymouth used the short roof 5 window shell up to 1941 for both the 3 passenger business coupe and also the 4/5 passenger Auxillary Seat Coupe, (the ASC was stamped into the body ID plate on the top of the firewall) then continued this short roof till 1948 as the Business coupe and from 1942 to 1948 had a new 5 window or "club" coupe body with longer rear side windows that was the 5/6 passenger coupe similar to the Chrysler/Desoto/Dodge body shell..................I had a Sth African built factory RHD 1941 P11 Plymouth ASC with the folding rear seats, most uncommon as this body shell was never sold here in Oz..........sold it a couple of yrs ago...........I used to be young & silly........after selling it I must be old & stupid.........lol..........oh well still got the ol' brown turd.........heres a couple of pics of the Plymouth.....................andyd

  13. Geezer.........nice sanitary install of the V8, looks like it included part of the donor firewall.........what is the engine, etc?..........andyd

  14. Found a pic I took of the rear fender extension.........the basic work had been done to both fenders and the local rod run was on so I stuck them back on for the weekend.......thinking about it now, after 40 odd years it wasn't that hard of a job, once the fender was cut 1" from the mounting edge, the cut front to back was actually done with a hacksaw, initally with the fender still bolted to the body then once I'd cut so far I removed the fender and clamped it to a table then used the hacksaw with the blade turned 90 degrees, cleaned up the cut on both pieces with a file then used 1 foot long lengths of 2" wide 18-20 gauge metal clamped to each side & gas & hammer welded in........theres only a very thin layer of bog on the fender, most of it ended up being metal finished...............am still pleased with how it turned out......lol..........just realised that this pic is the only one I have with the Gates Renegades F60 & L60 tyres on it.............lol........you didn't go looking for any wet road...............lol...........andyd.

The engine is a 355 SBC, built by "Jensen Engine Technologies" (A local expert race engine builder). And the firewall is original except for a small modification needed for clearance on the passenger side valve cover. TH-350, 69 Roadrunner rear with Tru-Trac, R&P power steering, front disc brakes. The A/C was a requirement demanded by my better half!!

Im thinking I may toy with this idea for a 1-2" extension. After getting everything together, it is a bit too close. I also need to re-arch the rear fender openings.

46, 2nd owner, still has most of it's original parts. Engine swapped for rebuilt 56, 230. Had it since 1970.

You know I keep looking at this car and at first I thought I would like it as a roadster but now I'm thinking it would be cool to cut the greenhouse off and Transplant on the far smaller Plymouth Greenhouse.

But it doesn't matter because I don't own a Chrysler I own the Plymouth, and mine turned out to be rather far from restoration worthy once I stripped it down to the Bare Bones.

But because it's not restoration worthy means it's perfect material for a hot rod.

I want to keep the main frame but trim the brackets, narrow the body and make it a step-down.

Now that I'm actually retired I might have time for all this nonsense finally. I have a hammer and a torch and a lot of time.

I'm not posting a picture but rather asking a question. One of the problems with fixing up a '46-'48 Plymouth is getting decent rocker panel mouldings since these seem to get beat to death. It looks to me that these are parallel the full length so the crown to them could possibly be made with a bead roller if you could make suitable dies; the only complicated area seems to be the curve at the front where some pounding and shrinking would need to take place. Anyone out there up to the task? I don't need them since I have NOS ones but live in fear of ever damaging them.
