I wonder where this was taken... I had a 53 Olds like that one around that time but cannot remember the name of the drag strip I stopped at.

Yup, it was covered in red fuzz and remember being rather disappointed :(. The great thing about that auction was that if you had $20k you’d have taken home a iconic car, such as the Monkeemobile or a Glass Batmobile with fuzz, both had A Cragar S/S type of wheel.....Raised White Letter Bias Ply Tires.
Looked those over and the Paul Revere and The Raiders Twin 400 ci Pontiac Stage Coach that had the same bumber as my GTO.

Neat thing is that in 85, I’m on a side street in Palm Springs and just one block from a place we had a vacation house was this Coach! 7D1C0137-B111-4419-BA70-6FC41BB36386.png

It was at my neighbors Palm Springs hotel as yard art who also lived on the next block from my house in San Gabriel that had the 23 T that we cruised all over the SGV. They bought it auction for next to nothing.....
Was sad to hear that they sold it, no idea where it’s at now or even how much they sold it for????

On another note regarding the Monkeemobile, The Monkees were playing the Greek Theatre for a reunion,The Grass Roots and also Gary Pucket and the Union Gap were playing as well.

Hell, i wasn’t going to miss this! So got tickets bought a program and got the suprise of my life!!!! 3 Of the original Monkees were up on stage playing every song that was on the show that most of us grew up hearing. Well for the finale up comes Mike Nesmith!!! Heck he didn’t need the $’s as his Mom invented White/Liquid Paper, she left him a grip of green!!!!

They kicked butt!!!! It was historic and I was there!!!!! Mind you, it wasn’t the Beatles as my brother Bob likes to remind me as he feels that they were a rip off of them, but did see Paul McCartney at Dodger Stadium the first time he’d played since 66 with the Beatles, made sure that Bob knew that it was being witnessed live by me!! ;).

The topper of the Monkees night was that right out in front of the Greek was a fully restored bright painted Red Monkeemobile. 157391DB-44DE-45C0-82F5-9CF4834A8794.png It was rumored to be the one that was at the auction 6 years before. :). 9C75F09B-CC8C-43E4-9A4B-2398AFB74594.png

Have no idea why it was at a Barris auction with his name on it since Dean Jefferies built 2 of them 1/4 mi. away from where this 1981 auction was held. He had built the 2 15yrs. before.

  8. When I saw the Monkeemobile, as well as the Raiders coach, both were painted. Never knew the Monkeemobile got fuzzed. Before I got my drivers license I built custom bicycles. I had one fuzzed in blue. Everything but the frame was chrome. It was a really cool looking royal blue. I used to ride that bike everywhere.
