I recently got these Mickey Thompson valve covers. I got new heads for my 383 build. The question I have is when I set the cover on the head the lip on the cover rests on the top of the head. Is it supposed to be that way?

Did you set it on the head with a gasket in between?

Sorry, here is a picture of the cover sitting on the head. The bolt holes are lined up.

It's not supposed to be like that, the covers were designed for the original cast heads, which have a thin edge around the top. But if you use a thicker gasket, it should work fine. The neat old covers will look out of place on the modern heads, but you didn't ask about that.
