OK guys,I'm going forward with my
modified. It's been a 10 year hunt that
finally paid off, I found and purchased
an all metal 26/27 touring front half
body,it's a little rough but workable.
Best of all it's got a nice set of doors
and I've put my old, floppy ,no door
glass body back in my shop loft.
The new metal body is going to the
stripper before I start rust repair and
required body work. At least it's a
great leap forward and game on again.

Here it is,the first photo post thread of my ' 26
lakes modified. It's spent the last 8 years in the
ground floor shop, I had to remove the rear wheels to get it through the doors, but had to remove the shop doors first. It will now live in the
big shop/ pole barn. First thing is going to be
fitting the metal '26 body ,then tear down to
finish welding the chassis and prep for paint.

Bought this one in May '17! Only had 400 miles clocked! A nicely detailed build from about 10 years ago for Roy Rockwell![IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Built to commemorate the Bo Jones Modified from the late 60's![IMG]

Can't see the suspension. Quarter eliptics?

b-t-w; you're Dutch's son? He took me for a ride around Davenport (we were there for the antique races on the dirt track) many years ago in the baby hemi 23-25 roadster when it was in gray primer. I've wanted that car ever since; or one just like it.

This one? Looks like cross spring front and rear on the one Highwayzero posted BTW.

I'm pretty sure that's the one. I do know that it later got yellow paint. And back then it didn't have the hood or hood sides or fenders. I don't think that it had the sidepipes either.

Personally I liked it better without the hood and fenders. And while yellow is ok, there are about 5 or 6 colors I would have liked on this car better. To each his own. My name ain't on the title so it really doesn't make any difference what my opinions are.

The pix are too dark on my computer to make out those details.

why do people put the front axle out so far with 1/4 elliptical springs and z'ed frame in the front or the deep channel. most of the pics from the day don't look that. i am no expert but what do you all think. just an updated look to drive on the street?

Probably to increase the wheelbase to achieve a more limousine like ride.

Moving the front axle forward does the same as moving the engine back, except you don't lose any foot room. The weight bias changes and you should achieve better rear wheel traction.

This was set up with leaf springs front/rear. I don't have a good pic of the front here at work, but you can see the perch and chrome clamps just behind the front axle, and the shackle hangars are actually cut and welded into the front radius rods. Front wheels are extended out to really get the proportions right. Bo Jones was the big inspiration for this one, too! roadster2.JPG roadster1.JPG
