I thought it was only fair to post the latest A/G win in the Southeast gassers at Myrtle Beach on 10/14 went to Kenneth Phillips in the Silver Streak II. Back to back wins by early Vettes in the SEG series. I have not been able to find a wrap up video but looked up some short videos and the winning run by Phillips against Donovan Stott was a classic side by side race. Congrats to Kenneth Phillips and hopefully the early Vettes can make it three in a row in the final coming up at Shadyside on 11/4. 22449944_1766154963395297_7124925980772109124_n.jpg

Loudbang good group of pictures. I see you have two Vicious Vettes and neither were the original Vicious Vette. The one above with the hardtop is a somewhat recent build of a 57. Small block powered.

Charlie Wilson owned the 58 Vette (what I will label as the original Vicious Vette) and during much of its career it was BBC (built by Bones) powered with a torqueflite and Olds/Pontiac rear. I do not believe the car ran in gas (may have on a particular night at a particular track). Early on more than likely modified sports then they ran it with nitro in some FX races (early funny car in essence) in the later 60s. As of 1967 the car had run a best of 8.71 at 166mph. Not sure what ever happened to the car. Wish it was around. Here is an early picture of it with Charlie Wilson and then later when he ran match races.

The other Vicious Vette you posted is the Mr Pickett 1960 Corvette when it was owned by Larry Martin and renamed Vicious Vette. It ran a BBC as well with an Olds/Pontiac and ran in the low 9s I believe in the early to mid 70s in this trim. Whereabouts unknown, I believe.

The Rapid Rat 57 was built and owned by Sinister’s dad.

The red car you question as Big John is a relatively new show car out of Illinois .

Limelight was a AA/Gas supercharged car out of California in the 60s. Not many Vettes ran in that class that I am aware of. Legitimate cool car-had held some records.

Silver 61 with the stacks is a recent Nickey build-nice car.

Not sure about the mid years'

Another pic of detail on early Vicious Vette-because it is pretty decent IMO VV-1.jpg

You also have another shot of Mr Pickett above with the aluminum nose panels. Ceasars Ghost 61 is still around in original livery. The Emerson 57 you posted is the later rendition of the Midwest Auto parts/Prontito car. Probably my favorite car that I watched in the 60s. Amazing car IMO. I am not sure where this car is-wish I knew.

The Silver Streak vette is 1 very nice hot rod. Seen him at Clay City the night he kissed the wall.

In one of my posts above I hoped that the early Corvette gassers could make it three in a row to end the Southeast Gassers season and glad to report that Alan Gaulden did just that with his win in A/G. I have not seen any write up other than what I found on facebook. I don't do facebook but was curious to find out the results of yesterdays finals and it came up.

Wonder if anyone else will get the bug to fly the Corvette colors next year? Quain's first car was a 62 Corvette- maybe one of these days we will see him behind the wheel of any early Vette.

Here is a pic of Alan in the winner's circle. 23231651_1786860641324729_3690568776347463778_n.jpg . Congrats are in order for sure (plus congrats to all of the participants as they continue to keep the spirit of old time racing alive).

Some nice pictures Loudbang. The red 62 Vette sparked a question or two. I have run across Jack Bayer's name on road race cars and I believe a Z11 Chevy. I have never researched him but he was allegedly quite a builder. The 62 above is a recent pic but the wording 1962 nationals winner has me wondering. I believe the 62 Vettes ran in A/SP in 1962 with the new larger 327. The 61 Vettes with the 283 ran in B/SP in 1962 when this red Vette was new. We have talked on here about Mike Lenke's black 62 that ran at the 62 Winternationals and won A/SP class (and Bert Brown's 61 Vette-Grassman/Osterman/Nicholson/Wade won B/SP class and went pretty deep into Street Eliminator) but the Street Eliminator was won by Earl Wade in what I believe was Mike Lenke's black 62 Vette A/SP. So we know a black 62 Vette was a Nationals winner in A/SP. Anyone else know if any other 62 Vettes won a national event in A/SP. Can't think of another off hand.

Not sure what National event this red 62 won but I wish someone familiar with the car would fill us in. I do not believe 62 Vettes ran in A/SP in 1963. The older they got the more they got bumped down in class.

It looks like the car has slapper bars on it (picture is a bit fuzzy -so maybe??) and not sure what year slapper bars hit the market but more correct may be some Cal Tracs I believe. Cool looking car though. I would park it in my barn.

Anyone else familiar with Fred's Plastic Toy and what part of the country he ran?
