Saw this posted on Facebook guy picked it up at an auction in Ohio but doesn't know anything about it. Anyone know it or recognize it? I just appreciate that he picked up what looks like a pretty intact custom

  3. It's been mentioned a couple of times in the last few day but there was only on photo from the rear.

It stared life as a 1940 Ford DeLuxe sedan,it's been chopped and the rear fender skirts look like Lincoln Zephyr,I bet back in the day it was a beauty. HRP

How long had the two cars been sitting there? my guess is between 10 and 20 years.

but I only know how things deteriorate around here, not how they do it up North.

I was at the auction yesterday and I'm not sure how long it had sat outside but sadly our environment was very hard on most of the cars as most were in very poor shape.

    That was originally a 39, not a 40.

I'm not exactly a custom fan but I would drive that one everywhere!

I drove past that car (and the rest) every time we visited the in-laws for the past 21 years. Dude collected and would never sell.... I don't know the history. But I wish I had been there for the action! I love that car!

Very sad, looks like someone collected and passed on without any family members interested in the cars. Hope they have better caretakers now.

  12. Looking at the pictures I’d say that whoever painted it may have been influenced by Larry Watson. As evidenced by the scallops.

Scan0103.jpg NO, just your typical 80`s influenced style of scallops. Long before the internet and wide spread of coverage of customs in print.

The paint and style always reminded me of something Trosley would draw when I read CarToons in the 80's

Yeah, I know all about it, was something I did, left my shop mid 80's, never saw it again, had to chase the guy to get paid, never did. the car was not built in 50's, and isn't famous. its a 39 STD with a 39 deluxe cowl, zephyr skirts, some work was done when I got it, I have some pictures of it, body and paint looks like it held up pretty good considering its 30 years old and been sitting outside

Gear Jammer, if not to big of a chore, could you please post those pictures of that car? I, and members of our FB group, are enamored with that old neglected custom.

Thanks for the reply Gear Jammer. It's on my FB page Primer & Rust, Rats & Rods. They posted pictures and everyone went ape over it, including me. Hopefully the new owner will do it some justice. I'll keep an eye out here. If you run across the pics post 'em up. I'll ship them over to FB.

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to impose on you for something so trivial. I am sure you are as busy as the rest of us! So, you painted the car? I am real impressed with the scallop layout. Do you know you did that? Thanks

Really freakin cool! I'd like it better if the trunk wasn't welded shut, but that's me.
Hope the new owner gets it on the road and back to its glory

I wonder how the bottom of that car is rust wise.. I guess most of the outside cars there had the windows down for years
