afternoon folks.. not sure if I've got the lingo correct but can anyone help regards me getting a company/agent ?? to inspect a car for me in the US. being on the other side of the pond inspecting it myself presents many issues.also if they can facilitate it being shipped I was in contact with someone from over here that went to the US regular but his lack of communication concerned me anyway thanks for your time reading this Daz
If it is going to be licensed and registered it will have to be done in that state. Each state has their own regulations plus it will have to meet federal smog regulations. Sent from my Moto G Play using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm in Michigan. But we're a big state. Do you know what city? There are a lot of us HAMBers in Michigan.
I'm kind of in limbo regards getting a car shipped as next Thursday is the decision date for planning for a larger garage . (planner here has been a nightmare) but want to hopefully have all in place so I can get the ball rolling straight away as have had way too many delays this year Daz
Day, Another question is how about some information on the cars? What year and are they stock or modified? A restorer might not feel qualified to look at a HAMB car and conversely. Charlie Stephens
good point they are both Mercurys that have been modified (roof chops etc) but will receive further mods. I suppose I'd like to know how much if any rust repairs would need doing and what general state they in.one is in need of a helluva lot the other looks finished i suppose but not how id like to have it not really what a restorer would have in his remit
The US is a big place...and each state is a big place. When you are ready to have someone look at a car, you might try posting a new thread with a subject line stating you would like someone to look at a car, and naming the nearest city and the state. If no one can help, then the link above might help you.
if you could tell us what city in michigan, good chance you could get somebody to take a look and give you a good idea . im very close to michigan, and may be able to help.
hmm good idea... I plan to have no back wall to it and construct a wooden/workshop/SHED on the back as there' nothing they can do stop me regards that... Much appreciated, I'll find out and let you all know went out for a meal with friends last night who is doing a wrap round extension what is already a huge house (hes a builder thats simply bought improved and sold many times to now own one of the biggest houses round here and still drives round in a scabby old transit van). I asked him how big the garage will be now New one 7m x 5m old one 6m x 6.5m the new one is in front of the old one so a good sized unit all said .and he' wanting to put a mk1 escort in it,dya think it'l fit ???
Millimeter, Schmillimeter! We're not Metric over here. You need a minimum of 9' x 16' to fit the average vehicle. And that's tight. I've done several builds through the Winter in a 9' x 15' garage, and I had to learn how to do Origami to unfold myself! If you ever find anything in New England, and need a second set of eyes, I'd be glad to help!
We are not metric yet but we are slowly inching our way to it. They told me in high school in the sixties that we would be metric in a couple of years. Charlie Stephens
Lol.we end up using both over here which at times is pretty confusing narrowest part of garage will be 9' 16' (this where my cossie will be (the other car in my life)) widest will be 13' x 16' workshop part attached to the rear if this will be about the same hopefully big enough for working on a mecury
....another Michigan guy chiming in here. If the car is somewhere in SE Michigan, I could probably go look at it for you .
not a bad space Thankyou. as said very very generous offers of help, and gŕeat advice.very much appreciated
Not for nothing, but isn't that a very long/expensive trip? I think you're looking on the wrong Coast! It's a $2k US truck ride just to get it to sail from the East Coast.
I agree, yes it is expensive but if there are no suitable/rotfree (hopefully) cars on the east coast its a good option. also bear in mind ive really only started to look properly, my other car took a year to find (and even then it had a 4yr resto)
Wenatchee is in the center of the state, about 150 miles from me. There are a few hambers in Wenatchee however
