Probably a few more good weeks to drive the Zipper before winter sets in here.

  3. I miiiiiiight get my banger in my avatar running by the end of the month. Definitely by the end of the year.

It has fresh everything. Babbit, bores, pistons, valves, valve seats, rebuilt oil/water pump, rebuild distributor.. just gotta plop it in my frame and wire it up.

  4. RE: The RPM Nationals at the Santa Margarita Ranch. I just spoke to the young fellow who I've been trying to mentor in PreWar track racing (mostly Road Courses). At RPM he was running his newly acquired 30's "Big Car" (a predecessor to the modern day Sprint Cars). For those of you attending last weekend's event, his was the single seat "Black Widow" car, running a Model B flathead. He reiterated what I had heard that perhaps a "Banger" turned in the best time. Can anyone here verify that?

Bluto thanks Crazydaddyo Im wondering if they were something Dan Iandola use to cast? there is a thread on the Isky roadster elsewhere that showed some print that claimed that only six were made I have two Isky had one Crazydaddyo has one and I know Pat Gary has one so I suspect they may be quite common.

    Russ,
I don't like to recall history if I don't know it, but I was told that there was a car club in So Cal that the members made them in High School shop class. It is quite possible that Dan made the one I have.

Jim will get the story from the man himself. That will clear it all up. I was also told that the eyes on Isky's light up at night.

OK, Ed's at SEMA and signing books when I caught him. It was pretty noisy as usual a lot of people in the background wanted his attention.

Ed says the Mascots were made at Poly High School. He broughtt at an auction from a friend raising money

I hope that helps. It was pretty crazy around him. We've not talked for a few months and we we're trying to catch-up but it was just too loud to really talk. So I'll check back with him when he gets home. We've been friends for way over 50 years. It's always great to talk with him. I just wish I'd been able to hear.

If you need more info Russ please send me a PM and I'll try to help.

The roadster sat duty in the Dyno room for so many years .... It was always nice to see it just standing there kindda sleeping. The first time I saw it in the sun and lovingly cleaned I thought they had restored it..... I'm very glad to tell you they didn't

    Hi @ all,

finally I've got my hopped up "German" G28 four banger back from the engine builder.
Now I'm looking for the best clutch plate / pressure plate option.

Searched the HAMB for the last days without success.

Could anyone give me an advice on a clutch?

Found different types of dics at Mac's/Snyders (woven/new style/heavy duty/V8) and two different types of pressure plates (three vs. six arms).

The engine is a hopped up G28, witch bigger valves, bigger cam, winfield head, dual 97's etc.

Looking foreward to hear your reccomendations.

    Many Greetings
    Daniel

  23. Joe,
I regret not being able to attend the RPM Nationals (I live just down the street in San Luis Obispo); but I had to go down to SoCal that weekend. Nevertheless, GREAT JOB! I think it's "bitch'n" that you sucked the goggles off the V8 drivers and all comers!
Now all ya gotta do is come back down to the Santa Margarita Ranch next July; and show some of the F.A.S.T. boys the "Short Way' down the aistrip!

Daniel, I just installed the following parts from Brattons on my pickup. The clutch disc retains the springs using metal tabs, some of the clutches from other vendors do not.

Nice looking Banger, is that Jim Brierley's new head??

Diaphram pressure plate (won't/don't slip/chatter with hard use)and aluminum flywheel with steel face(about 26lbs). Regarding disc , ensure that the disc that you choose has (captured) springs, so that should they become loose over use/time, that will not come out of place in disc...

  27. Here you go! I wasn't the only one surprised, even the announcer was surprised me beating the fastest Blown V8 at the RPM Nationals. (Making a total win with a naturally aspirated 4 BANGER!)

  30. Thanks, All my runs were just as good, (I'm not easy on her!) It was a great day of racing! I brought home two trophies that day. One for winning my class, then a really cool one with a gold Indy car on top, green marble and a brass plate saying (Best Hot Rod) I can't wait to get an issue of HOP UP MAGAZINE with the event coverage!
