This is the build thread of my dad Ron's 55 Chevy 150 post car. Building to run Southeast Gassers D Gas. We've just started on it, hoping to have it done for next season.
You guys have a good start. It never ceases to amaze me how fast you accomplish things. Inspiration to get mine track ready for the spring.

seems like I may remember talk of the 3000 lb minimum changing, maybe down to 2800. I wouldn't expect to see many 280 inch motors, so maybe that case would be a 3000 lb car, 300 cubes, with iron heads and injection to allow it to run at 2800 lbs. Maybe Quain can clarify. Might end up adding A/C and a stereo to get my Falcon to make weight
Factory weight on my Chevy II was 2,500#, so trading a 6cyl. 3 spd. to a 301 and 4spd. still leaves me light. Not counting that pile of scrap in back of the shop.
Quain has changed the minimum for next season . Plus a 200 lb break for stack injection. 2970 with the 297 inch motor minus 200 for stack injection . 2770 it is. My Morris minor should weigh around 2400 ready to go. I weigh about 205 . So a little ballast and I am at the weight. Iron heads get another 50 lbs. but that is not a trade off for a set of CNC ported AFR heads.

It doesn't matter what the minimum weight is for the class. You are entitled to the weight breaks like stack injection(2oolbs), period correct intake(50lbs), iron heads(50lbs) to be subtracted from your pounds per cubic inch weight even if you end up below the class minimum.
Mocking up dads car. 10% engine setback, enderle injection, magneto, and 301ci of SBC. I think this is gonna be a killer car for him. Excited to start on it.
We used to run a 6.50 gear in a G/Gas 67 Firebird with a 2.95 1st gear. We ran a 13/31 tire at 3450 lbs and a 306 inch motor. Car ran 6.80's which was under the NHRA index at the time. That was in the mid 70's. We used a Dana 60 rear. We would change flywheel weight to compensate for the track conditions. We carried 3 flywheels with us all the time. Now days track prep is usually not an issue.
Got the front tires mounted today. Gotta pick up some parts from Ron Pope Thursday so we can start putting the front axle under it
Got our stuff from Ron, and mocked up the ride height. If we don't change the front frame, with a 4" drop axle it'll be 15" from the rocker to the ground. Dad wants it at 12.5" so we're gonna have to modify the frame. Gonna get the body and frame blasted Saturday so it'll be clean. It's coming together.
