Everything inside the cowl area appears to be original. It doesn't show signs of someone changing the cowl to put the Deluxe front end on, but I can't seem to find any information on a 39 Deluxe Delivery.

There is no Deluxe 1939 Ford sedan delivery and they are simply 1939 Ford sedan deliveries... FUN IN KIMBERLY 2016 018.JPG

Well how do you explain this one? We have had a couple of "Experts" here to look at it, and they have left scratching there heads. Ford built many odd balls because of the parts that were sitting close by on the line. Just saying!

The cowl must be split at the seam sides to like the 39/40 hood and fenders. I am not trying to come off as a "expert"on anything but if you look at where the dog leg in the 1939 hood meets the cowl of the 1937-39 sedan delivery body it must be changed. If some one can prove me wrong I will concede and admit it/Thanks.... 22780356_880852555424112_2134802089828014192_n (1).jpg

I picked this one up a couple months ago, I'll be starting on it soon. I will post updates on the build. I have a 351w from a 73 Montego that I plan on putting in it.

Bought this 37 Chevy Delivery project out of Texas and did a window delivery conversion on it back in the 80's. Sold it to a guy in Indiana and it eventually ended up on the West Coast with new paint and leather interior. Articles were posted about it in Rodders Digest and Street Rodder.
When I sold it in the 90's the price was around $15,000. Saw it several years later for sale in a Goodguys magazine for $62,000. Never saw the Delivery again.

IMG_0306.JPG Here is at least a pic of my project Sedan Delivery. It's getting the rear section, from the door jambs back, fused to the front of a 52 2 door to make a long door Delivery. Hope to get it done over the winter. Chassis and engine about ready to go too.

  14. This is why the HAMB is amazing.. I saw that delivery on the west coast in the 90's, and thought it was brilliant. I have 3 kids now, and I thought again about this car the other day, because I'd love to have a multiple row "SUV" hot rod for my brood. Thanks for the blast from the past!

  16. Man, I hope you see this project to it's end. This is eggsactly what I wanted to do with my 50 delivery. The 36 deliveries came from the factory with the long doors and looked outrageous! Keep us informed on your project please.

    Rocky,
You've been watching my project from the get go and your statement that was something like "damn what a piece of shit!" has been inspirational! I'm going to see it through to completion BECAUSE of you! :p Good on ya!

Here is the 2 door donor car....some will probably say it should be the project as they always do! It's getting cut up unless someone happes to offer me a price I couldn't turn down....and I don't see that happening! IMG_0308.JPG

    Hey RM,

Nice old photo of the sedan delivery and newer conversion. Many times while driving our 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, we wished we had a right side window for better vision. Slow lane driving was the key driving mode for my wife, while I kept my eyes peeled on the tiny circular outside rear view mirror, constantly. The rear door window was virtually useless to see some road vision for us.

“JIMI HENDRIX LIVES”….a great slogan…But he would have rolled over in his grave if he could see the latest intrusion to the theme of the fabulous, “All Along The Watchtower” in a perfume commercial on national TV. The family couldn’t be that poor to sell out commercially…? Wow, how times have changed…

    Hey FF,
Thanks for the comment. I did try to put on larger ones, but somehow, at the time, it just did not go well. Your idea is a great improvement over the old days of "almost sightless" driving during the day. At night? That was totally scary.

That’s my 47 Chevy. Still looking for front fenders and front sheet metal if anyone has anything available.

Jnaki, glad you liked my old 37 Chevy Delivery. Part of the reason when I built this Window Delivery was for the side visibility. We loved our 37 Chevy Panel truck but the kids could see very little when we were traveling in it. Going to a Sedan Delivery and converting it into a Window Delivery made it more like a Station Wagon and solved our problem. We eventually moved on to a Chopped 37 Chevy Sedan which I still have today.

    Hey RM,
Your sedan delivery is/was pretty unusual. Back then (1961-65) no one had that idea, could do it well and it would have been a big hurt on the teenager's skimpy income/savings. But, as teenagers in the early 60's the sedan delivery afforded total privacy in the back. Driving 60 miles one way to our favorite surf spot in South Orange County afforded privacy when we were sleeping in the back waiting for morning to come. It was easier to drive down south at night and sleep until the crack of dawn to walk into the scary marine base to go surfing.

There were plenty of times that we had to park up near the main highway in the residential areas and go to sleep. The local sheriff's cruisers would come by and knock on the doors. If we were absolutely quiet, the 40 sedan delivery afforded silence and privacy... They did not know if we were inside, (which we were) so, they assumed a surf vehicle and knocked to make us move away. As long as we were quiet and left before sunrise for the long trek into the jungle/beach area, we were safe and never had to move.

    Jnaki
Many times, our friends with station wagons got the same treatment, but it is harder to hide in the back of a full window treatment vehicle. They had to move to the state park up the road and pay to sleep. We just stayed quiet because the sedan delivery's blank panel walls and a driver's partition allowed total privacy and quiet.

Ok, the big question is, where did those 10 foot+ longboards hide from the sheriff's intrusion while we slept? They were not in the short sedan delivery, but in the thick jungle, just a short walk down a trail. They had to be picked up on the way to the surf spot, later in the early am. No one ever looked in the thick isolated jungle for hidden surfboards back then.

But, it was not nice to get awakened in the middle of the night with loud, echoing booms on the doors. That did not affect us that much. We knew of the pristine waves that would be all to our selves, just waiting for us down on the beach. It was a short paddle through murky, jungle waters to get to those waves.

  30. Cool story Jnaki, I haven't posted on this thread yet. But my delivery has been my motel many times. The front seats fold forward for sleeping etc. Also a rear camera helps in traffic. I first saw this Hot Rod as a kid. I've had it about 40 years. Ron 20171125_165632.jpg 20171125_165125.jpg 20171012_080828.jpg 20170924_131506.jpg 20160215_100210.jpg
