Or, better really late than not at all. Last April I had the chance to roadtrip with my sister in law and wife down to Phoenix to visit some snowbird friends. While we were there I found out about the So-Cal second Saturday shoe box swap meet and the Central ave. cruise. My wife said "Why not go? Maybe you can go on the H.A.M.B. and hitch a ride with somebody local." So I whipped out the newfangled smart phone I was just learning to use, and posted it up. The rest, as the say, is historical. or, was it histarical? I want one of these for my car! this little gem was built out of several different bodies in a tiny one car garage. No body filler and smooth as silk. And I cant even finish my car in my 24x28 ! He finished off the inside with roll-on truck bed liner too. But I didn't get a clear pic. I love the humor some people put into their builds. left to right, Chip"need louvers?", Joey(I think), and Roy, Chip was the fellow HAMBer that responded to my post and volunteered to drag me around town for the evening. believe it or not, the body panels on this roadster started life as a '41 Ford cab-over. The 1/4 panels were the front fenders, swapped side to side and reversed. Fantastic metal work and lots of it. this is my mug with Chips car and his buddy "Panda". Here's a better shot (I'm not in it) of Chips ride. Most of the T-bucket guys will remember it from his "Bucket of ugly" build thread.
After we left Phoenix, we headed north to Flagstaff and turned west toward Kingman. We shortly came to "Radiator springs", Better known as Seligman Az. down town Seligman This young lady is Linda. She was one of the docents/historians in the gift shop. Really nice lady. This is a portrait of Angel Delgadillo, The town barber who started the effort to get Arizona Route 66 designated an historic highway. The world famouse, historic, and just plain cool, Snow cap drive in! My wonderful wife of 28 years, got an ice cream cone. MMMM, Tasty and cold. L.A. This-a-way. Chicago, That-a-way. Getting out kicks on Route 66! Even if it was in a rental Toyota Corolla. Word of advice: The rental was a nice car, but, way too tiny for a 1500 mile road trip!
