We were able to spend some time today so hood stripped, primed and painted and bedwood / strips installed. Got the windshield in too.
Probably wouldn't help it. I know purists don't care for faux patina but we usually wear out the paint some. It's either that or high gloss. Tough to get your money out of a high end paint job when selling. Flat paint isn't an option.
That truck is cool. I am a chevy guy as well and like the 47-54 chevvs, but those 48-52 f1's are really starting to catch my attention. The job you are doing on this one grabbed my attention.
Nice Truck!!!!! I have a RESTORED Stainless windshield molding and gasket on ebay right now that would look Great on your truck! It really dresses up the F1s.
Thanks, I had a 48 that is my picture and sold it like a idiot. Wife got mad, so 2 years later I find this 51 with all the hard work done and new sheet metal. Camaro sub frame, 10 bolt rear, small block with a turbo 350, but am switching to a700 r. The wife and I will go out to the Midwest next summer in it Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Makes me wish that I was able to keep my '52 F-7 4X4 dump truck that was converted from an old front mounted fire pumper truck.
We've been able to complete six trucks in the last year and a half. Just stay with a game plan and buy solid trucks.
Door glass, rear glass and remainder of trim installed,. Sanded out the paint and got a few miles on it. Carpet and headliner is next.
Looking good!! Like how you sanded out the paint, just the right amount. I know its not everyone cup of Tea IMO you nailed it just right..
I had a 48 that was given to me free . It was a parts truck to a restorer . It had a new 51-52 bed and gate , he was into 48-50 bed was junk to him . The truck was free for hauling off . I got no title , just for parts . I was going to salvage steering box , crossmember , flathead . On the way home , I was passing a huge scrap metal yard , in the line to enter was a 50 pickup . I wheel over and ask the owner did he by chance have the title ? Yes ! I gave him 25 .00 for title and number plate . Repaired the front fenders , small block Ford , AOD , 65 truck 9 inch . Toyota 4x4 Power Steering , AC , power brakes . I drove that thing daily for 65,000 miles rain , snow , shine ! I ran across my late model rat , 79 Dodge Stepside Power Wagon , so the 48 left . Probably the most fun vechile I let go . Terrible Mistake ! I’ll try to find a few photos , I know if you attended SRN , it was there you had to see it with my pet Lucy , the must friendly pit bull on this earth watching over it . These are great fun usable Hot Rods , enjoy it and the hobby
Thanks guys. Randy and I try to keep everything in house. We really have to watch getting too deep but sometimes ya gotta spend the money to make them right. The labor stays pretty much the same. Gotta put carpet in it tomorrow. We were looking at it this morning and decided to color key the hood grille. I really think it looks better. We'll put a few miles on her before putting it out there for sale.
First picture in post 10 really altered my opinion of these trucks. I drove a 52 all through high school and was pleased with the body style, but didn't realize how much different they look without the front lower sheet metal. That gave me some big ideas about customizing. What if a guy trimmed that wedge shape off the front of the wheel openings so it goes directly from the grill opening to the wheel opening. Build a 50's Kenworth looking radiator shell mounted just proud of the fenders and a custom hood that fits the shell, hang a couple chrome headlights upside down under the fenders, maybe quads but that might be too much. Chrome the bumper and move it back almost to the grill.... hmmm. Sort of a squared off version of early 30's fenders. Do you mind if I carry that picture over to the boys on the photoshop thread and see if they can apply my ideas to it? It may not come out nearly as cool as I'm thinking it would, but I'd like to see it. Cool truck, sure wish you hadn't sanded through that nice paint.
Do whatever you like with the pics. I am a big fan of '51-'52 F1s due to the front end treatment. As for sanding it, not everybody's cup of tea but we like the slightly worn look. You can drive and park it anywhere and not worry about scratches or chips. It has a completely painted and detailed interior, bed treatment, chassis and engine compartment. The wings were disassembled and rebuilt with new glass, rubber and pivot kits. Every part on the truck was new or rebuilt. Just makes for a nicer, more reliable and comfortable truck when done.
