“The crowds that welcomed the Dodgers to Los Angeles and continued to respond to their historic presence were enormous -- 78,652 for the first game in 1958, 93,103 for a 1959 exhibition with the New York Yankees saluting Roy Campanella, and more than 92,000 for each of three World Series games against the Chicago White Sox in 1959, when they became the first team to go from seventh place one season to a World Series title the next.

"They called the Mets in 1969 the Miracle Mets," said Vin Scully, "but the Dodgers in 1959 were really the first miracle team."
The Dodgers left the Coliseum for Dodger Stadium after the 1961 season.

    Hello,

When the Brooklyn Dodgers came out west, they landed in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. That was home to the USC football games and the old, LA Rams. But, when this “other” pro team came to Los Angeles, they chose a temporary home at the Coliseum. The west end of the stadium would hold the most people, so a diamond was designed to fit near that end of the stadium.

Being a baseball player and fanatic, my dad took us to two different games there. The first time was along the first base line near the field. That was cool, the action was right in front of us. The second time was along the 3rd baseline near the tall screen in left field. Because of the grass football field and track, the spectators were farther away from the 3rd base line and left field.

The way the original design was created because of the Coliseum field, (originally built as an oval for track and field and football) the left field boundary had a 201 foot, short field distance boundary. But, to make up for the fact that it was a short distance, a 60 ft. high screen was installed. Comments galore came from everywhere. The game was exciting as it was one of the first games to be played in this giant Coliseum.

We had been coming to the Coliseum to watch USC play football for years. When the baseball season ran into the football season, the football field end zone was near the infield and the pitchers mound. The football players tackled and played on the gravel dirt sections of the infield. Real, “sandlot football.”

I spent many a night on the boardwalk in this seaside town. They had a bar called "The Chatterbox". Chubby Checker performed there every Summer.

  11. Yes and no. SOME shots were done there. It's Timberline Lodge at MT Hood Oregon.
"Timberline Lodge was used as a filming location for the 1941 musical short, Jingle Belles.[citation needed] Feature films shot at or around Timberline Lodge include Bend of the River (1952), All the Young Men (1960), the 1973 version of Lost Horizon, and Hear No Evil (1993). Most notably, exterior shots of Timberline Lodge were used in The Shining (1980), Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of the Stephen King novel set at the fictional Overlook Hotel."

I'm proud to say my Dad, a Forest Service architect designed an addition to the historic building, maintaining the flavor of the original Lodge.
