    Hello,
Again, I must have too many memories of this Cherry Avenue drags location. From 1958 to 1965, it was the mainstay of our cruising grounds in Bixby Knolls in Long Beach. It is pretty close to the Lakewood City border and it is pretty isolated. For us, sometime or other, the evening started or finished here on this lonely stretch of road between two giant cemeteries/mortuaries. A lot of my friends lived within a block or two on the Long Beach side. No one complained because of the noise from the cars. The shutdown area is well away from the homes at the far end of the raceway.

So, every time I go to this part of Long Beach or to the Lions Museum multiple times for the set up days, I always drove on this portion of the highway. It is better than a packed freeway. Life comes bursting through your windshield with tons of memories from 57 years ago.

For a prospective: A quarter mile measured street location with a ½ mile shut off area before any cross streets…

I could not help myself to just try out that old feeling again. It did not matter what car you were in, 53 years of old-time memories came flooding through instantly. That old feeling just did not go away. So, a mild run down the street instantly brought back those dark, late Friday night, high school drag races on this lonely road…(today, it was not lonely except during this photo shoot. During the day, timing is everything…)

Afterwards? The shut down? Perfect, The surrounding looks for the CHP or “local LEOs?” Perfect, The easy, peaceful feeling driving away from this location…Fantastic! Actually, it was just catching up to a few cars. No local laws were broken, no speeding other than a normal acceleration. We can’t drive 55…in my mind… We are all law abiding citizens these days. But, it was the location, the empty road, two cemeteries, and the “ka-ching” in the memory banks; that flooded the good, old brain cells once again. That may be the last time ever, so it was good.

I so hear ya Jnaki! But we hope you get many more blasts down the old road to flash back to simpler times! We all need a breath of old time air from time to time! Joe

Made my annual round trip to Lake Wenatchee today. It was a gorgeous cool bright October day with lots of color showing along the twisty roads from Leavenworth to Lake Wenatchee and back. Most of the pictures were taken along the Wenatchee River on Highway 2 in Washington State.I had to miss the club outing that took place on the previous day so there are no pictures of other Hot Rods but going solo has other benefits like being able to drive at your own pace and no waiting at the 59er diner for that delicious Hamburger and fries I set the convertible up for it's winter nap after this ride. I may get it out again though if this nice weather holds for awhile.

The canyon has suffered through some fires over the last 6 decades Ben but is still beautiful year around. With the development of Leavenworth as a Bavarian Village tourist attraction the traffic in October and December can be bumper to bumper and slow on the weekends .

my good friend Bob's funeral was today...got near this overloaded mini-van on the way to the mortuary, decided not to pass it, waited til it turned off...about 40 hot rods in the procession led by Bob's step-son Jim in Bob's 39 Chevy and step-son Jeff in the "tooned up" special. 22712358_1588248171236049_9219045887686816384_o.jpg 2017-10-21 00.04.39.jpg 2017-10-21 00.20.47.jpg 2017-10-20 22.31.32.jpg 2017-10-21 00.14.08.jpg 2017-10-21 00.25.29.jpg 2017-10-21 00.26.08.jpg 2017-10-21 00.28.47.jpg
