my buddy phil (dragwillys) found these fadeaway door pieces for me at carlisle yesterday,,,,,they are MINT and RUST FREE,,just a ding or two,,that's it....a BIG thanks to phil....i have been looking for these for quite a while,,,,with absolutely NO luck,,,,,,i was so excited to FINALLY have a set of these, i took the day off and mocked them up a mere 8 hours after i picked them up from phil,,,,,,,,,,they are gonna work PERFECT,,,,i will be fabricating the fender and quarter pieces (paper in the photos) soon, and a rocker panel,,,,,,,,,,it's gonna be a lot of work, but having those door pieces makes the job WAY easier by far!!!! Thanks again phil!!!!

here are the pics from today in chronological order:

  8. wow, great find....keep us posted.

  9. What are the fadeaway peices??? Are they something off a production vehicle, or custom made peices, or what??? The car looks super.

I am so glad to see this post. IMHO this is one modification that will transform this car from being a very nice custom to being an incredible landmark custom.

The car was begging for full fadeaways.

Lookin' mighty fine...wouldn't it be a kick if all that were as easy as scissors, cardboard and tape...and you're done...???

Humpf, guess everyone would be building kustoms then, eh?

This is definitely a new high point in modern day customizing. It's not just a repeat of the stuff we've seen a million times, BUT it's so traditional it makes my heart want to jump out of my chest and THANK YOU for building this car!

    GORGEOUS!!!!!!

Kustom7777(Jim), Yes! Also notice the exhaust exits thru the bumpers. I always loved that touch on early customs. So is the fade away getting the dip at the end or are you just gonna roll with it the way it looks. It's tough to say, having it mocked up full scale. I do love the way it looks though. Thanks for the pics!

Also, the line (top) of the fade away needs to come up a bit in the middle towards the rear. More of an alignment with the front fender to the rear. Keep it going!

I'd like to know the same thing. The blue piece looks like it came off of another car. Buick maybe? Fill us in. What are these pieces?

They look like they fit on the car perfectly. This car is going to be unreal.

Cool. Would a pair of 46-48 Chevy door pods work to fill in the rear quarter panel part? They have the same curveature (looks like) and they dip off at the end if you want to put a slight dip in where it meets up to the rear fenders.

If you think you can use some, I've got some here I'll give you for free, just pay the shipping on them. Might save you a bit of fab time.

    Dude you are a stud!!

After that Photoshop post, I got so jiggy thinking about that car - I kept thinking..."man, I hope he doesn't back out of doing the fadeaways...it would absolutely MAKE that car"

I mean I really couldn't get the vision out of my head, I love it that much.

That car is soon to be legendary!

'48 Buick is the same also...and they are from a Super or Roadmaster, because the Special didn't have the fadeaways. I'm about to start on a '48 Buick Super so I caught what they were right away. They're going to look fantastic on that car!!

Nice work! Only thing I would suggest are either Caddy Sombrero caps or "Hollywood" flippers instead of the ripple discs.

PS....if you could find a pair of Buick Super front fenders, you could cut them off and use the rear halves on your existing fenders and probably save yourself a ton of work...
