It is hard to believe that 2018 will be the 9th year of the Meltdown Drags! It is officially time to start getting ready for the event.

For those who have been living under a rock, the Meltdown Drags is the world's largest and best vintage drag meet held at historic Byron Dragway in Byron, IL. The dates for 2018 are as follows:

Thursday, July 19th: Racer entry...no racing
Friday, July 20th: All day and all night racing
Saturday, July 21st: All day and all night racing
Sunday, July 22nd: All day racing

The purpose of this thread is:

    • People to share what they are doing to get ready for the 2018 Meltdown Drags

    • Have a little fun calling out a match race

    • Official Meltdown communications regarding the event
    • Ask for some technical help on your car
    • Just don't be a jerk and you will have fun on this thread

For those who have never been to the Meltdown Drags, what are you waiting for? Just kidding. The Meltdown Drags is an event like no other as we recreate a drag meet from 1966. This is an event for racers/hot rodders put on by racers and hot rodders. Bring your period correct car to race at the best vintage drag meet in the world. Some might even say that this is the place where the guys go that get it!

The best part about the Meltdown Drags is that this is an event where everyone can come and have fun. We don't care who has the fastest car. This is an event that every car group, or individual, can come and have fun for just one weekend a year to feel like you went back in time. People came from 42 states and everyone is treated with the same welcome and level of respect.

For more information on the rules please check out www.meltdowndrags.com

We also have a Facebook page and recommend that you follow it for other updates as time goes on.

In our ongoing effort to ensure we are being as period correct as possible to 1966 we will be clarifying some of the criteria as well as tightening up a few areas.. This isn't done to single anyone out, but to hold to a high standard for everyone.

Everyone always wants to know about pre-registration since there are way more cars interested in attending than we have space for. Pre-registration will start at Midnight on January 2nd (that is wen it turns midnight between the 1st and the 2nd). BUT, we are going to have some changes for the 2018 registration...so please stay tuned.

Thank you to all for making the prior seven events a huge success and we look forward to a historic event in 2018.

I was on the "project list" for 2017 but had to bail because life and money (well, not enough money) got in the way......now, the altered is done and ready to rock......nothing's gonna stop me this year!

That Henry is exactly what the Meltdown supports and allows through the gate... you may have to wipe off some tire lettering though...

9 hrs (Yawn) I come 15+ hrs from Manitoba Canada with a bunch of friends and 4 maybe 5 (possibly 6) cars in 2018. Then there's those lunatics coming from the West coast 30+ ... I remember getting the Long Distance Award at Meltdown 3... now I'm not even half way for some folks. That speaks volumes for the event. Worth the trip and the effort...

And so it begins ... errr... again

  10. the BEST event I go to every year...

Won't it go faster if the rear tires are on the ground?

This is my favorite thread every year. And I love this event. Planning on bringing the camper for the whole weekend this year. Bring on the builds and rebuilds so I can endure the long winter here in Wisconsin.:D Larry

We don't give out little bowling trophies for the fastest car, but we do give a few non-conformist awards for people whose actions caught our attention. We almost gave you one for oiling down 1,600 feet of track...

Btw... have you changed your mind on calling me out yet? I do need a match race for 2018

I will be back spectating with my son. We had a blast. Drove the 32 coupe there, camped, ate, drank, watched drags. It was great.

Ouch ... Jeff isn't wasting any time baiting the next call-out or giving any thought to the wreckage and crushed souls he's left behind from the unfortunates who dared to call him out in the past... We're still not sure which cave Scott Archer has retreated to in hopes of finding peace, and Paul is putting on a brave face as if all is well ... Paul ... we're here for you, there are support groups ...

AJ I'm stepping up some cubes and a injector so be careful where you step man if you think you need nap lessons you have the master nap taker within the meltdown crew so you will have no problem getting a lesson or two
