Bought these skirts at Hershey this year. Picked them up from a vendor that was from Michigan. At first glance I thought they were factory made on closer inspection these are extremely well made by hand. Think they may be Jimmy Jones skirts that were made in Inkster MI back in the 50's.

The vendor I bought them from did not know what they came off of but thought they might be ford. First thing was to see what they would fit. So went to my favorite place and size them up against some old iron.

too long for 49-50 ford. closest was a lincoln and 53 ford. But no where near the right shape or latch placement. Stopped on the way home and tried em on a 57 oldsmobile.

Fit the wheel well and latched. tip went right to the door jamb. fit bottom curvature tight. But had a gap at top of quarter. Skirt would interfere with stock trim. and cover bumper bracket hole. Looks like GM product. Stopped to check on a 56 chevy. fit better (fit bumper to jamb) but would interfere with trim (too tall in back). Held it up to my neighbors 57 four door. followed below bottom curvature of trim by 2" but did not want to scratch the paint.

    Two questions:

    1) are these Jimmy Jones skirts?

    2) anyone have a 1957 chevy 2 door I can try these on? DSC07609.JPG

They sure look like a set of real Jimmy Jones skirts. I have a pair for a 49-51 Ford

Can't tell you what they fit but they also look like the verified Jimmy Jones "Inkster" skirts that I have seen.

  7. If I was a betting man, I'd have to say there's a strong possibility those are the real deal. I'm gonna go home and measure my Merc and if the measurements line up, I'm gonna talk you out of them. :D

You do know that the first set on Jenkins 57 were stolen at a drag race. In the early 60`s. At the time they cost him about two weeks wage.

  12. Fascinating Kustom history lesson. Hope you are able to determine what they fit.

Didn't know this, could these be those skirts? Only paint on them is the black primer and mint green paint.

Oh yea, Mint Green paint, of course, these are the set that Sammy B could not find for the Merc. he chopped, back in the early 50. Go ahead and keep them, I think Sam found another set.

Picked up another set of what look like another pair of Jimmy Jones skirts. They have a rubber seal pinched around the exterior 3 sides. Removed from a 1949 Mercury. Do these look like Jimmies work? If anyone is interested in either set of skirts I can bring them to the Jalopy showdown in Pennsylvania next week DSC08846.JPG DSC08847.JPG DSC08848.JPG DSC08849.JPG DSC08850.JPG
