Art & Inspiration How about a door panel thread?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56don, Oct 9, 2017.

  1. I need to make door panels for my 56 Chevy and my artistic side is drawing blanks.
I have the board already but now need to come up with ideas on the upholstery for it.
How about posting some photos of your door panels and how you made them to give some inspiration to others considering the same thing.

It might help to see the rest of the car, so we can get an idea what would match...

I was going to suggest purple with orange flames, glad you showed us the picture, first! :)

Something like on Danny's door panels, would work...but you probably don't have have the stainless bands to break up the design with?

Any number of vendors carry 56 Chevy door panels. Ecklers, Hubbards, Classic, Ciadella, Cars Inc.

  10. I don't want a stock looking replacement door panel. Hoping to see some custom ideas .

I gotta say that HRP 's panel just about nails it. It's got style but it's not over the top. If that yellow is bright you don't want anything too crazy ,it might be too much. Good looking car btw

Inasmuch as your (beautiful, BTW) seats have horizontal pleats sewn in...I'd make a pattern on the door panels that run the pleats horizontally also. (front to back...therefore matching your excellently planned out seat covers!
The yellow and white theme can be carried through with (as Danny suggested) a stainless trim bar separating the two, matching the theme of the seat.
Aaaagh! I'm starting to sound like an...'interior decorator'...

Here's a 54 Chevy panel I did, Del Ray trim. Maybe some pleats where the inset is? Sorry about the crappy picture it's all I have.

Great thread at the perfect time as I am looking to get some ideas for my '55 as well. I do like the delray style interior with some different pleating and such. I've thought of that for my car only in black and white.

Crummy picture but I made these for my wife's 57 awhile back, no sewing bought the material already stitched and cut it to fit myself. Polished the old stainless trim while I was at it and they came out pretty decent. Still need new arm rests but you get the idea.

Sideways... you could stay with a simple two tone design
