After 5 years of waiting, my 57' 210 sedan is finally ready to go under the knife. It took awhile to collect of enough parts and motivation but over the past 9 months this car has seen some decent progress. It came with a decent frame but I stumbled upon a clean California style one piece frame, but not too nice to cut up of course. I apologize ahead of time, I did not take enough pictures in the early stages of the build.

We next graphed in a Ford rear crossmember for my transverse leaf spring perch and hung my 32 Ford heavy axle with split 36 Ford bones and spring. Hubs and spindles are Speedway pieces.

How about some magnesium Halibrands for a little eye candy.

Now that I had a rolling chassis I brought the body home. Real solid car but needs quarter panels very badly on the driver's side. While I'm doing the one I figured I will just do both and have perfect quarters.
Then set the body on the new chassis. Couldn't help myself but to hang some fiberglass fenders and doors to get a rough idea what the stance was going to look like. Starting to look like a gasser or something...

Next was to build some motor mounts. Started with a paper template [IMG]
My dad was able to get the template flame cut at work. Perfect pieces were awesome to work with.
Then after some heat and persuation they started to shape up
    [IMG] [IMG]

Then they were welded and metal finished
    [IMG]
Then final welded on the car with some spacers machined out of aluminum, these will get redone out of larger diameter stock at a later date.

  6. That's good fab work there! What type of steering box are you going to run?

Nice ride. Great craftsmanship on the fab work. You going to paint it yellow and have Tony Danza sign the dash?

I'll be running the stock steering box, hopefully going to come up with something to make a steering arm out at Jefferson. Whatever I get I'm sure will have to be dropped, stretched, or both.

No wonder it took you so long to get started. You are using nice parts and doing it right. No quick skipping going on here. I will enjoy watching your build.

Trimmed up the midplate and built and welded mounts to the frame, they will be finished welded next time the body comes off

The frame excessively long had to go. So we pie cut the frame and put a round tube spreader in. Not real sure if the frame horns will stay square or get a slight rounded nose to them.
Also got into some shock mounts. Forgot to take pictures of the lower mounts but they are just some tabs welded off of the wishbone and we had to get a little fancy with the upper mounts.
    More flame cut parts
    [IMG]
Some more bending and welding later we came up with these. They will be bolted on so they can be removed and later chromed.

And before I go any farther I wan to give credit to Von Hartmann for most of the metal finishing work thus far. He has been a great mentor to learn from but I have a ton of catching up to do. I am very fortunate to have such a great mind to bounce ideas off of and this car will truly be a team effort between the two of us.

Probably not much progress in the next upcoming weeks. The next big project will be fitting up quarter panels, Ryan and I will be kicking some ass preparing the equipment and space to take these on.[IMG]

No progress on the car to share but I did pick up these magnesium halibrands that match the fronts. I was planning on running 6 lug palimedes but I couldn't resist these. Definitely helps that they match the color of the fronts. [IMG][IMG]

UPDATE!!! I let life get in the way of my hot rodding and bought a house. So the past few months I have been saving money for the house and we finally closed Monday. They weren't kidding when they say its hell getting old! All I can say is at least I will have a shop space I can call my own. Hanging doors, fitting up quarter panels, building firewall and rear suspension(that will now include a big Olds rear end instead of the 9" Ford) will begin after we finish moving in. Thankfully I bought enough parts ahead of time that its just a matter of time and labor to get this project back underway! Real progress is soon to come

Wheels are everything man. You nailed it. Thanks a million times for not putting aluminum slots on that car. Or those hideous 10 spoke ‘gasser’ wheels that everyone and their brother put on anything.

Thanks! I can't stand those ET 10 spokes, nothing vintage or cool about them

  27. Agreed. Wheels make the car. Magnesium is the pinnacle, you nailed it.
