Technical 1948 CHEVROLET TRUCK 3/4 TON GAS TANK

I have a buddy who is restoring his grandpa's old farm 1948 Chevrolet 3/4 Ton Truck and is in need of an original gas tank. The tank on the 3/4 ton trucks mounted under the front side of the bed on the passenger side. He's having a hell of a time finding an original or replacement tank. Any help or pointed in the right direction would be much appreciated.

A picture, as the saying goes, would be worth a lot of typing... Does the 1/2 ton model that Chev's of the '40's sell come close?

 

The tank is missing. I believe the 1/2 tons were behind the seat in the cab and the 3/4 ton tank was under the bed. Thin and narrow to run along frame rails. No photos to share at the moment.

check out brothers truck parts. they show a tank for a '48 pickup & suburban that is the same for a 3/4 ton.
Also check out All American Classic in Vancouver WA. they may have mounting brackets & straps.

 

'47-'48 1/2 ton tanks were inside the right frame rail in front of the rear axle.
Never seen an aftermarket tank.
Shouldn't be too tough to fab.
It is a tight fit between the driveshaft tube and frame.
That's why most aren't reused.

 

Going, Going, WRONG!
The AD trucks, 47-48, had the gas tank under the bed, with the filler neck on the passenger side. This includes 1/2 tons, so that replacement tank from Chevs of the 40s will work on the 3/4 ton. In 1949, the gas tank was moved from under the bed to inside the cab.

TOTALLY WRONG Chevys of the 40's does not have a tank that will fit a 1948 Chevrolet 3/4 ton truck, but they still sold me one for $480. Tank that they sent me and the original tank that came with the truck.

What are owners of 1948 Chevrolet 3/4 ton trucks using for replacement gas tanks? And still trying to keep it as original as possible?

Boat tanks come in a lot of shapes and sizes. Maybe?

 

the tank shape looks a lot like the tanks that came in 37-47 chevy trucks but with a different filler neck location.

It is confusing. I always thought 1/2-, 3/4- and 1-ton trucks had the same tank. Maybe not.

...you mite try the TANKS website for something else that would work;...3/4 ton Chevs have a narrower frame aft the cab than 1/2 tons in those years....or you could put one in the cab behind the seat...

 

My buddy has a 1952 Chevy 3/4 ton and got one from Tanks that he mounted in the rear.
