"If enough people asked"...... Around here tall sidewall tires are a small minority even at cruise nights/car shows.

I don't even think we could get our small traditional group to settle on 2 sizes of big and little skinny bias ply Firestones.....so someone could make new molds or whatever it takes to make some round skinny tires that are good for 30,000 miles. Instead of selling a bunch of different sizes of questionable quality.

Most tire manufactures make replacement tires for newer cars and trucks and SUV's that have worn out the tires their vehicle came with. There isn't much available for us.....hopefully someone can prove me wrong.

Would be really nice if everyone stated their tire size on this thread otherwise it's just another picture thread. I am considering 265/75R15 on 8" wheels in the rear and 165/80R15 on 5" wheels in the front for a '32 hi boy 5 window. I love looking at all the pics but numbers would be very helpful to me. Thanks to those that did include the numbers.

  5. Denny - Liking your panel truck the tires are sitting in. Had a '66 for a while. Shag carpet, bean bag chairs in the back. Fun days.

I feel big and Little’s are almost a must on a hot rod. But I also think the right wheel and tire combo combined with stance is 80% of a cars look and feel.

I don't remember the size's on the '26 or the '46 but they were big & little.

    The '29 has 6:00x16's and 7:50x16's.
The '57 Belair will get the same size all around.

My whacked 34 sedan and Willys. 34 will eventually have 9:00 X 16 Radir cheater slicks to replace the big radials. Willys has Pro Trac front and rear with some Mickey Thompson slicks on 200S Americans for race day!

    i like big+littles.

However, can we discuss IF this affects the braking system/dynamics of the car? And if so, how?

(Asks he, as he presently drives a car with front tires significantly smaller in diameter than the rears on public roads and has been doing so for quite a while..........;))

Like gas mileage in hot rods, I never gave it any thought.

  21. This is the reason to run slicks in the rear. The sticky tires make up for the reduced contact patch up front, and the reassuring nose dive proves it!

Can I offer an opinion? IF a piece of flat stock was welded on top of frame, same width, from firewall to the front cross member and then "boxed" I think it would improve strength and look pleasing, from side view.. JMO

Finally puled the trigger on the tires and wheels for my '32 5 window build. Guess which side of the line I fall on? 265/75 and 165/80.

I think if you run bigs and littles, you are always driving downhill, and therefore get better gas mileage.
