I recognize that 40 Ford "verts" are beautiful cars. It was my first car. However, the 39 Ford convertible is nicer looking because the smaller top gives it a more desirable profile. Also, maybe it's just me, but when you look at the windshield frame configuration of a '40 it gives the car a "sad face" look.:(

Here are some great looking 40 convertibles posted by HAMBers. I kept them as reference for the modified roof line. The 40's original top have the hump that looks like it was made for a child to stand on the rear seat & not touch the roof. I guess it was done with 40's designer eye of what made a car. I am finishing up one project & hope to start on my 40 in the new year.

My dad in 1940 with his new car. Stainless steel running board replacements he said were extra dealer items. Look close to see the ribbed Good Year (?) whitewalls. He eventually sold the car and said it went to California. Shortly after he joined the Army Air Corps and become a P38 pilot in the Pacific in WWII.

Here is my convert. I saw my first '40 convert in 1956 at age 15. I thought it was the prettiest car I had ever seen. Here, 60 years later, I haven't changed my mind. Prettier than a '39 for sure.

I drug this one home a few months ago... I haven't had a chance to do much to it.
It's an old hot rod, complete with 57 chevy radiator, engine, transmission, rear axle and springs.
Mustang seats, KIMG0070.jpg also notice the fenders have been leaded... KIMG0072.jpg KIMG0069.jpg KIMG0071.jpg

Here are a few of my favorites from my files. I love the 40 convertibles and have owned three over the years.
    I'm looking for another one!

I love the '40's - but was glad to find a '39 with the smaller top and rumble seat.

  21. Man, I'm Jonesing for a '40 convertible. I keep thinking a mild custom tail dragger, but then the hot rod guy in me would probably overrule that idea and have it nose down raked with a set of American Rebel Sprint wheels on it.

I saved this pic off of FB the other day as inspiration.

Love these cars/trucks just couldn't help myself.

My dad and I have been playing with this one for about a year now. It sat in the back of a body shop for several decades.

Maybe it's just me but, I have always disliked the "look" of the stock 1940 Ford windshield, even when I owned one.
It looks oversized and in conflict with the overall design and flow of the car. They look much better chopped.
Or, perhaps it would look better without the stainless surrounding trim. What say you?

The windshield does look a little large on a 40, in the photos I posted (18 before this one) my one is stock with chrome one with a chop top (maybe a little too much) and no chrome. Between the two I like the original best.
