The GMC engine you were referring to was probably a 302 cubic inch only made for about 2 years. I have one and they are rare. More common in drag cars than round track but very cool.

Wow, thanks. I had to make a copy of the Daytona measured mile photo. That is cool. My current project is rooted in that time period. I've got that decal on the side window.

What caught my old eye was the cowboy shirt on the little boy in the grand stands. I am about his age and I lusted after a "real" cowboy shirt like that back then. I bet it had pearl snaps instead of buttons.:D One just like Hoppy wore. My dad took me to the races just like that...Lanham speedway. My favorite driver was Pee Wee. What a cool nick name. It's been a housing development for over 50 years now.

Anyway...thanks for bringing those times to mind.

I,m pretty sure that Atomic Speedway WAS Dayton Speedway for a few years. Used to sneak in there AND Kilkare. Kilkare was the easiest!

The photo of the little girl and the one entitled "at the track" were taken at the Portsmouth (Ohio) Speedway... The photo with a track in the distance appears to be the Raven Rock Drag Strip, which was located near Portsmouth. The #41 coupe is Wayne McGuire of Gregoryville Ky... Atomic Speedway is located near Waverly, Ohio... The two pictures of the dirt track might be the old Huntington Motor Speedway in West Virginia... Dayton Speedway did have a smaller oval inside the half mile track.
