yeah, I knew it was still around and restored. Probably 20 years ago, I had Rutherford's address and tried contacting him about the car; I wrote twice but never got a reply. I'm sure his son got the letters and didn't answer because he still had the car & had plans for it- good for him. I saw it at Lime Rock maybe about 15 yrs ago...it was good to see it again, but I wish he had painted it the turquoise color & left the headrest on. It kind of bums me to see how shiny & new it looks now. I would have left the original cosmetics just as they stood, and just restored it mechanically, but that's me.

    Hello,

Nice "mag ad" shot of the 1959 Chevy 4 door Station Wagon. The color was a little off, so I altered the color to go with this story. The wagon was the mainstay for several years in my wife’s family of cars. Three kids qualifies for a larger land vehicle. I just sent one of the models to my wife’s sister and one to her brother. I am finishing up a slide show for their remembrance services for their late 98 yr. old dad that recently passed away. Here is an old thread from the HAMB when I wrote about the family station wagon and the memories that came out of the original birthday slide show.

The first attached photo is Tony Bettenhausen at Langhorne in the 1937 500 winning car of Wilbur Shaw. And I believe the second photo shows Johnny Rutherford in Steve Stapp's car leading Jud Larson in Watson's Offy sprinter at Terre Haute.

    Thanks again, Rootie!
