I have a 1955 270 hemi and looking for the degree of tilt back for the motor install? Please help Thx Rob Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ok when I'm at 3 degrees the transmission is not level at all it's pointed up at the tail? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Is it possible that you have the manifold on backwards? I had one of these in a "T"-bucket in the '60's and from what I remember, it may have been possible. If not this, maybe a marine manifold?
I believe I mounted mine about 3 or 4 degrees back as checked on the valve cover. Mostly it was a function of where I could clear the lower firewall with the bellhousing. as checked on the valve cover.
Ok that's what I thought however your transmission looks level.. when my 270 is at 3 degrees my transmission (TH350) with adapter plate is pointed up.. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Not trying to sound like a smart-ass but maybe your reading the wrong side of the angle finder and in actuality your trans IS 3 degrees up?....Stranger things have happened on those long nights in the shop..?
The trans output shaft/housing is on the same plane as the crankshaft. In my 70 years I have never seen an angle drive transmission on a standard rear drive car. I suggest you check your shop floor for level. In my photo you can see spacers under the rear tires. These are to level the floor and to compensate for the smaller temp "roller" tires and wheels. I set the chassis at projected level ride height prior to engine and mount install.
Ok another early hemi question i noticed that my motor does not have a harmonic balancer is that normal for the hemi 270? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
