figured i would start with a little background on both my cars here. got the lincoln about 3 years ago traded a 1964 buick skylark vert for it. always wanted something with suicide doors and this fit the bill. car was not in to bad a shape when i got it needed new rockers and some misc. original 337 with hydra matic. ran fine. didnt really do to much with it right away but have started working on it and the olds so thought i would start this. olds got this about 23 years ago its actually my second car traded my 71 dodge dart (first car) for it. drove the olds for a year or so, the power windows where giving me problems so i quit driving it and fixed up the 1956 olds parts car that came with the 54 and drove it as my daily for about 6 years. along with a bunch of other old stuff. so i wanted to do a frame off resto on the olds and in the mean time i was collecting parts then i needed a place to do then i needed money and it seemed like none of those things worked out together untill now so i am doing both cars. pics show lincoln not long after i got it. the olds a polaroid back when i got it and now mostly disassembled. hope people dont mind the combo build here dont have much time between work, a 2 year old son and projects so this wont be a quick build but will see how things go as time progresses.
Oldsmobile, once i got the body off the frame i needed a way to move it around so i bolted it down to an old boat trailer works nice!! the frame was in over all good shape but sometime in its life some one thought it needed a section of the center x-frame torched out. the only thing i can figure is it must of had some drive shaft issues at one time. have to fix that.
Lincoln, the rockers were in really bad shape so cut off what was left of them. it appears that they were replaced before. the rockers on these cars must be real rust traps because the rest of the body, floor pan & trunk is in good condition for the age of the car. got the new rocker on, wasn't the easiest thing, took lots of clamps these cars have a little bit of a belly in the center, but over all i think the gaps look even.
Oldsmobile got the hack job on the frame welded up, turned out nice i think. once that was done i sand blasted the whole thing and sprayed it with por-15 nice stuff. got the suspension all bolted back on and the engine and tranny bolted back in place. i want to put headers so i decided to build my own. i did a 3D model of the header flange had a couple cut out and bought some preformed stubs to weld on. looking to make it like the old fenton style. anyone have any header building tips? thought about doing a model of the frame while i have easy access to it havent decided yet, seems like it would be good to have for referance or if i ever wanted to see how modifications would work out.
oldsmobile, started working on the trunk area stripped paint and removed the lead at the factory seam, was getting rusty so i cut out the seam and will replace it with some new metal. hoping to be able to make the patches and weld them in this weekend.
lincoln, a few pics of the drivers side rocker area and the rust that needs eliminated!! got both front fenders off and both rear quarters unbolted, man what a job that was, bolts and cage nuts that get loose from their cages and just spin are no fun. now comes the trim the rust off and replace with good. the drivers fender had one small rust spot, should be an easy fix. also started welding up trim holes, electrical box knock-outs make good hole plugs. not a big fan of the chrome trim under the taillights and i am thinking the chrome trim sharks fin on the front fender needs to go to. looks to much like an after thought.
Oldsmobile, it's been a while since i up dated this but a little progress is some progress right. managed to get the holes in the trunk area welded up, need to grind the welds but i think it should clean up real nice with very little filler.
time to resurrect this thread after having to put things on the back burner for a few years. still have both cars and have started to get things going on them again. my goal this year is to finish getting the floor pan of the olds all welded up and the underside of it painted so i can get the body set back on the frame and then i can get a garage bay back.
oldsmobile progress pics because everybody like pics. overall the trunk area was in good shape so that was just cleaned and painted. my son made sure he got to help with that.
oldsmobile. the drivers side floor was in bad shape so that was cut out and a new panel was welded in.
oldsmobile, getting the rear quarters stripped, and in primer. also got most of the rust cut out in the rockers and in front of the wheel openings will all need some attention.
lincoln, been working on the wiring for this car, got a new harness and have been slowly getting it placed about the car. the area below the trunk lid is where the wiring was going but there was some rust holes across the bottom so cut that all out fabbed up a panel across there and welded it all up. just need to get it all cleaned maybe a few more welds and then some paint to seal and finish it off.
lincoln, pulled the dash to make wiring easier and strip it down and remove assorted dents in it. i have to say lincoln did a good job of making the dash easy to remove, a few screws across the top, a bolt on either side and a u-bolt at the steering column so alot better then some cars i have done.
oldsmobile, well i went and did it. the wife said it was never going to happen, and that pigs would fly and hell would would be a very cold place to be. so here it is the frame.
oldsmobile, the body, which has not been on the frame close to 20 years now. the start of getting it blocked up so i can get the trailer out and the frame in it place. 2-1/2" dia. sprinkler pipe worked out well for the job.
oldsmobile, a few more progress pics. had to flatten the rear tires just a little to get a shade more clearance when rolling it under and everything worked out well.
oldsmobile, the body back on the frame. all that's left is to get it all squared up and finish bolting it down. surprisingly i only had 1 bolt to give me problems when i took it off originally, so all the original bolts will get a good clean an paint and go back in place. so if anybody noticed some pigs on the wing or your trip to hell was a bit frozen it was my fault.
I remember when you started this thread. Glad to see progress and updates, and I am looking out my window for pigs on the wing
