I'm not sure I can "patiently wait" to see this all done!

For me spraying paint is the best part of a build. While you are doing what seems like endless sanding filling sanding again it's boring and a pain in the butt. BUT when you finally get to shooting some color it's like instant gratification you can stand back and think WOW that looks great and I DID IT MYSELF. But then comes cutting and buffing back to the boring stuff. :)

I'm afraid you guys will have to wait. :D
I'm taking a well deserved break for a brief time to recharge my batteries.

I'll be back at it soon. Once everything is painted I'll get at it and color sand and buff everything
Then it's assembly time, plumbing and all of that.

  5. Certainly would be a waste to allow your battery to run flat after all the excellent work so far, you enjoy your holiday relaxing away from car stuff. I will still be here waiting patiently for your return.

Made a couple of stands to paint the headlight buckets
Have to do the same thing for the tailights.

WTH, it's not motorized to spin so you can just stand there and squirt paint on it? :p

Get better coverage having it stationary and the carosel you can't see circulates him around it.

:D Man you guys are a tough crowd :D after spraying my headlight buckets and creating sags and runs requiring re- sanding and re- spraying I went down to my local kitchen supply store and bought this :D

    Are you happy? :D

Sags are long runs that look like a hanging curtain :D (maybe my own description but it seems to make sense to me :D)

Those and runs that look like wax running off a burning candle come from awkward gun technique and trying to get too much paint coverage all at once.

This has been a learning experience to be sure and the turntable will make it easier.

I've painted a bunch of parts twice, but like I said I'm learning.

  15. Cones are hard to paint.
The tip gets more paint per square inch than the rest. Sanding sags out is good practice.

  21. I am in the same boat. I had to sweep up leaves this morning before polishing.

Well, I painted the outside of the body.
Turned out pretty nice although there are a few spots ( dust nibs) that I will have to address with color sanding and buffing (if I'm brave enough to tackle it :D)
I'll be afraid of breaking through the paint

Despite my booth cleaning and cleaning everything before spraying I still have a few dust nibs etc.

Damb I thought, where do I have to spray
In a surgical suite at the hospital :D ?

All in all I'm pretty happy with it.
It's really straight so all those tedious hours sanding etc have paid off :D

I'm thinking it's going to look real nice once it cures and I can roll it out and unmask the firewall and everything

    Next comes the PU bed.

  24. Don't be afraid of the sanding and polishing, it's not as bad as it sounds, however looks killer even if you decide to leave it as is!

  28. When I was playing around with bikes, painting was one of my favorite things. Not so much the prep but the spraying and watching things transform before my eyes. Spraying primer was cool because things went from multicolored to solid. Then, from dull drab primer to COLOR! The best was spraying clearcoat on metallics. From flat to shiny/sparkly in seconds. Must be exciting to be at that point in your project, I can only imagine being there with mine!

    I'm enviously watching your progress.

  30. Did you clean you?
Most dust comes from the subject or the painter.

You could sand the whole thing flat with 600 and do a flow coat. It will lay out like glass. It's a whole lot less work than cut and buff too.
