Any time history shows its face in today’s world, it has to be admired. The Cook and Bcdwell FED stands out as a fantastic starting point. Some older racers in the Lions Dragstrip Museum standing around talking about this piece of history were down right confused. The design, the idea, the thought of a record holder in person just did not agree with them. “blah, blah, BLAH…the color, the wheels, the discs, the hoses, etc. were all topics to criticize.” History was staring them in the face… but, as we all know, they have their own way to look at history.

Since I was not at Lions for the historical top record run in 1957 (I may have been standing in the dirt of the next door neighbor, farmer’s field, looking during all of 1957,) this race car represented that time period well. Now, it was available for all to witness a world record holder in person.

Kudos to Ray Lake for getting the reconstruction started. Kudos to Dode Martin for designing and building the record holder with his highly professional crew, at his shop.

After the car was finished, it was delivered to Ray Lake at the California Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield's Famoso Raceway, where a single parade pass was made in the car for spectators in attendance.
